I have norton internet security 2007 do I need anything else
by bwarden12 - 6/3/07 6:10 PMI used to have spybot, adware, mcafee. Macafee seemed to cause problems on my computer and since then I've used Norton Internet Security and Im happy with it. However over the years when I install Norton it doesnt like that I have other software such as spybot for example. Probably because over time, Norton has incorporated their own verson of firewall protection, phishing, and popup protection to their own software. So here' my question, with Norton Internet Security 2007, do I need other software for protection. I still keep adaware because it seems to do the job very well. But what about spybot or other software that protects my computer where Norton doesn't. Please let me know.

Norton is considered to be a resource hog, but that aside it's still a powerful security suite, particularly with its antivirus scanner. However, I would suggest getting a second-opinion on spyware, for that's one area Norton has yet to convince me on. Personally, I like AVG Antispyware (formerly Ewido), which is free. The paid real-time protection is over-rated, but I'd keep the scanner around and use it to check up on Norton every now and then. Aside from that you should be good.

Norton products, including internet security suites, are always "friendly" with quite a number of other security programs.
The problem with internet security suites are about their hogging of computer memory. But they are pretty good overall, although it's always best to use antivirus, antispyware etc. products for the best protection.
I heard that NOD32 is the best antivirus around in 2006 to have the best detection rates of viruses.

The Vista operating system, although it has some additional security programs installed over previous Windows operating systems, you are incorrect in assuming "you don't need anything casue Vista cover all that good stuff."
There is no antivirus installed on Vista machines unless the user installs it.. (Some brand name computers will give you a free trial for antivirus programs but it doesn't last long.)
Although Windows Defender is included in Vista, it is NOT one of the best antispyware detectors available. (Many reviews put it last on the list.)
Vista still has security holes in Internet Explorer and Windows. Security Updates are being released all the time.. Likewise, be cautious about other vulnerabilities that are common to Windows.. Many are still there in Vista..
As to the specific topic of this thread about Norton Internet Security, it's a good program and each user will have different opinions based on their usage patterns. My opinion is, use what works for you.. Try each utility and see what is best for your situation.

Why pay for others when it's free? Also includes free Security Monitor program which keeps track of all system security progams performances.
