Vsmon.exe - Zone Alarm Security Suite Help!

by thatasianguy - 6/2/07 1:46 PM

I've been using Zone Alarm for a while now, and recently it's been causing major problems. It seems to happen whenever I start using AIM. A box will pop up saying that the program VSMON.exe can't read a file or something then it'll stop my AIM and Zone Alarm, then Internet Explorer, and my computer goes super slow sometimes. I don't think it's a virus because virus scan should have picked it up. VSMON.exe looks like a legitimate file, it came with with ZoneAlarm. I think the Internet activity and my IM stop working because of ZoneAlarm's Internet Lock function. Any info on how to stop VSMON.exe would be appreciated. Thanks for reading. -ThatAsianGuy

ZASS and Vsmon.exe errors

"Guy"...

You asked, Any info on how to stop Vsmon.exe?'.

According to a "Guru" at the ZA forums, "If you want to get rid of vsmon.exe , you'll have to get rid of Zone Alarm all together. That is the executable for the main firewall engine known as True Vector."

And another "Guru":, 'As I understand things Vsmon.exe is the very heart of the firewall program. It is as essential as windows.exe is to your operating system. If you have msconfig set not to load vsmon I doubt very much whether you are truly protected unless you start up the firewall at each boot up. You might still see the Zonealarm icon in your taskbar but that funtion is controled by the other major component of the firewall zlclient.' In other words and more precisely, stopping it doesn't sound like a good idea.

That said, there are many threads at their forum, referencing Vsmon.exe errors. These specifically dealing with Instant Messaging:

You also wrote, 'A box will pop up saying that the program VSMON.exe can't read a file or something'. Considering the countless amount of threads regarding "Vsmon.exe" errors, it might help to know what that "something" is. Also to know which version of ZA you have.

Sorry I can't be of more help, or narrow it down. You might find something in the above referenced threads. I did find some noteworthy suggestions, but nothing concrete. If you're not afforded any help here, maybe you'll find your answer there.
