Sorry to be so negative but I have to make my feelings known before I explode. It seems that over the past few weeks Real Deal has become a Web 2.0 podcast. Is this something to do with the Webware guy joining the team? Twitter, Silver Light, Life Casting, Blogging... Is it going to continue like this from now on?
I used to enjoy the real deal because it dealt with real everyday topics that real everyday people might wanna know about.. stuff like how to network your house, digital cameras, wi-fi security, games consoles, open source... now its just the web 2.0 podcast covering nothing but web 2.0 stuff.
Covering something like blogging ethics is a good idea, but not following on from several other episodes covering the same broad spectrum of topics. You've got to mix it up a little.
If it was me I would set some sort of guideline that if we covered the web one week then the next week should be something entirely different like hardware. At the minute its just one web 2.0 topic after another and I can see the point of this podcast slowly fading away.
Here are some topics off the top of my head that you could mix in to make things more varied...
Hardware:
How to upgrade your PC
What a Mac is and how it differs from a PC
What is a smart phone and why should I get one
Multimedia:
Online photo storage and sharing
Video downloads
Software:
Openoffice and Google apps; are they good enough to replace M$?
Opensource and free games
Audio apps for recording music at home
Gizmos:
Wireless headphones - infrared, radio, bluetooth, which is best?
Portable video players
i second the topic suggestion of smartphones. lots of options for a series.
Handset Types and Features (wifi, GSM, CDMA, bluetooth, processors, ram, etc...)
Windows Mobile (its various flavors, version 5 and 6)
Apple iPhone (when it hits the street)
Carriers Networks and Data service types: EDGE, EV-DO, HSDPA, speed/reliability comparison.
i'm sure there's more.

There should be a show on cellular networks. CDMA, GSM, 3G....it can all be very confusing. It's practially begging to be on the show.
This is the kind of feedback that keeps us honest. I didn't really think of the Silverlight episode as being Web 2.0 but I see what you mean. And we did do an INternet2 show last week. That help?
Anyway, Rafe and I both love the cellular networks topic, so I think we'll make that one the next one. Love all the other ideas! We'll put them in the mix for consideration. These are really good ideas too. Thanks!
Keep 'em coming.

The Internet2 episode was good. Nice to know that the net has a "test server" so to speak.
I look forward to the Cell Networks topic. THose things have had me baffled for the longest time.
