You have already decided.

by Feel99 - 5/31/07 11:52 PM In reply to: ?? PSP or DS lite ?? by Tjn1

Oh.. well.. I think you have already decided.
- NDS is the only one can roll back and play the Gameboy game.
- NDS is the only one can play Mario's game.
- NDS has a long life battary.
- You can use SuperCard with Micro SD card to play a movie.(need to convert to mpge 4 format, but well.. you can do it.)
- NDS has the web browser, you can surf the web and check the web mail.
- NDS has the Final Fantiansy 3 and 12, Dragon Quest. which is a good RPG game to stick on with.
Racing, hmm.. you got Need for Speed Underground 2.
Shooting.. well for the FPS game, they got Metro. and the shoot game only avaliable in NDS with touch screen, otherwise, how can you shoot it!? :)
Adventure, Lost in Blue is a good adventure game that you should have a go.
- Good graphics.. well depends on how good you want it to be. it's already thousand times better than Gameboy, and it againsts the battery play time.
- NDS also can use Wi-Fi to play games with the others on the net. But well.. if play online, I don't think anything can compare with Xbox live. (player online and the server maintainance.)

See that's help you not.

My preference is the PSP over the DS

by johnbuker - 6/1/07 10:28 AM In reply to: ?? PSP or DS lite ?? by Tjn1

I own both and far and away prefer the PSP over the DS.

It's a personal preference, but my reasons for preferring the PSP:
-Games- too many kiddie games for the DS and short of the Mario franchise- none of them really interest me. Of the games that have come out for both systems (Lego Star War 2 and Burnout Legends are 2 examples I've tried), the PSP versions have much better graphics, are longer, and less buggy. The criticism of a lot of PSP games is that they are remakes of PS1 and PS2 games, but many of those games were great and are still great on the PSP.
-Ability to play movies and music. UMDs movies are/were too expensive, but there are many free utilities available that allow you to rip DVDs and re-encode them to be played on a PSP. And the price of Pro Duo memory sticks has come way down. I travel a lot and it's nice to be able to take music, movies, and games with me all on one device.
-LocationFree player- requires additional hardware from Sony (check ebay if you're interested- I picked up a LocationFree basestation for under $50)- allows you to watch TV via the PSP and a wireless internet connection.
-Web browser- neither system has an ideal web browser, but I've found the PSP browser to be slightly quicker and it comes included with the system instead of having to purchase it separately. But that feature doesn't get used by me a lot- mostly only when traveling.
-Controls- the PSP gets criticized for only having one analog nub instead of two, but I've rarely found that to be a major problem. I simply don't like the touch screen on the DS- it works well in a few instances (like picking plays in the Madden games), but most of the games where it's required it's use feels tacked on and the control scheme could be controlled better using more standard controls.

I guess I'd just suggest you look closely at the games available for both systems and decide if you want to use the system for anything more than just gaming.

You seem to like both handhelds.

by mxdoom - 6/15/07 9:20 PM In reply to: ?? PSP or DS lite ?? by Tjn1

After reading your post, I think you might as well get both of them =)

Haha, just joking, but I think you should get a DS, although I have a PSP myself.

- "-i have a gameboy sp and i have toooons of games for it so i like it how i can still play all of those on the ds and i dont need to start all over"

Obviously you want to get a DS dont you?

-"-i like rpg, racing, shooting, and adventure/action games"

DS has got rather nice RPG, PSP's RPG games are rather bad compared to DS's. PSP has better shooting and racing of course, due to the pretty screen it has got. DS has got some nice racing games, like Mario Karts. Shooting for DS, hmm, only Metroid I presume? I am not so sure about the Adventure and Action part though.

-"i definatly care about good graphics."

Ooh lala, PSP wins this round. But the dual screen DS seems quite novel and cute though.

-"i would like being able to watch movies sinse i go on some pretty booooring vacations ( the long driving part )"

I think PSP would be more suited towards this.

-"i looove playing xbox live and live games that are hooked to the internet with other players. "

Hmm, DS has got Pokemon that links you to everyone else around the globe, which means fun trading pokemon and battling them. I know PSP has got the Worms Open Warfare that could allow you to link to the world, but reviews say that this game isnt really that good. Personal opinions for this part.

-"i like being able to checking my email"

Both handhelds allow this function. PSP email function is quite good, if you are used to SMS-ing, it wont be a problem for you. I havent tried DS surfing web action, but I think with that magic stick things shouldnt be too hard. Besides, there's OPERA!!!

-"i enjoy all the mario games like mario 64 and mariocart but sometimes u need a break from those and get some realistic stuff in there (does ds have realistic people games??)"

Huh realistic stuff eh. PSP has got some nice history lessons(call of duty medal of honour), very realistic indeed. But what's wrong with cute pretty cartoons!? o.0

-"i cant stand having to charge the battery everyday. battery life is important"

PSP can last 4 hours. I think DS wins hands-down here.

Conclusion:

PSP is more expensive, but if you dont give a damn about budget then get the PSP then. But if you dont get the homebrew thing for PSP (argh it's a sensitive topic about homebrew), I dont think you will get as much fun. DS apparently can get pirated games, but if you honour piracy then never mind. Still I think you should get a DS since you are a Nintendo fan.

psp definately

by rsftl - 9/6/07 7:44 PM In reply to: ?? PSP or DS lite ?? by Tjn1

psp definately is superior than the nintendo ds, i think the new psp daxter bundle is out now and its only $200, u get the psp +1gb memory stick+family guy umd+ a game i think. totally unbelievable price. also ive always noticed nintendo has kinda kiddish games...psp has better games IMO, specially if u like fps and stuff. also the psp has wifi and a browser so u can check your email. and u can system link your psp with other psps or even a ps3, and u can play online aswell just like xbox live.

Don't buy the Sony PSP.

by Eexpert - 9/6/07 9:22 PM In reply to: psp definately by rsftl

For people who do not own a PSP yet, please don't buy it. Highly recommend anyone not to buy this console. Don't get swindled for this piece of trash. Not to be forceful, I really think that this handheld supposedly gaming console is completely a waste of time and money by Sony. The multimedia capabilities of this device are almost unnecessary.

PS2 > PSP anywayz

by SuperDave602 - 9/7/07 6:41 AM In reply to: Don't buy the Sony PSP. by Eexpert

You're better off just buying a regular playstation, or a PS2 which are both cheaper.

PSP

by ebertcobain98 - 2/26/08 5:29 AM In reply to: ?? PSP or DS lite ?? by Tjn1

Personally I'd say go for a PSP Slim and Lite. I've found that the DS is more for casual gamers and little kids - the graphics aren't really up to par, the games selection is cartoony and overall not very developed. The only reason I would think that you should get a DS is your already existing library of games which would work on a DS. Though I think you should probably get a PSP and play your library on the Gameboy. I don't really see much of an evolution of games from Gameboy to DS in terms of game play, but I think it really depends on your taste in games. Overall, as I'm sure you already know, the hardware of the PSP is much better than the DS, and as for battery life it is better on the PSP Slim and Lite than the original one.
