Am I the only one who thinks Viva Piņata is boring?

by MikeThinks - 5/28/07 8:50 PM

Seems everyone I talk with thinks its a near perfect game. Maybe Im missing the point, but after 2 hours of the demo I keep asking....AND?

I guess I though the gardening thing was a small part of the game, not that it WAS the game. I somehow expected you to get to DO things with your piņatas. Kinda Like Pirates of the Caribbean 3...I expected better, and so am disappointed.

Dare I write this?

Watch Idiocracy and consider the dumbing down of games.

If you are insulted by the game then wrap it back up and exchange it or "gift" it.

VP is not for everyone...

...but it seems you are missing the point a bit as well. In the game, you attract Pinatas, using your garden and its inhabitants as a lure. To attract higher level critters is quite a challenge, as there are more and more interdependent requirements for each animal to get it to visit, live and eventually mate in your garden. When your garden get bigger (micro)managing the whole thing gets more complex than you might think. However, the game is not perfect, as there is a little too much fluff to keep the kids happy (the mating game, for example, and the shops with their annoying keepers, when a simple on-screen menu should suffice). That's the biggest problem: the complexity of the game is hidden by its looks, and it sends out a confusing message to gamers. It's more for fans of Sid Meier's Pirates! than of Pirates of the Caribbean 3

Maybe it's the demo?

I've never played the demo, but I own the game, and I think it's way cool. Both my kids enjoy it. My wife even enjoys it, and she's not much of a gamer at all. It's the first game she's ever created her own profile for.

As for the game, it think it is quite creative. Especially in a time where there are so many simulations and shooters that are all variations on a common theme. Viva Pinata is well outside the lines. What genre does it fit in? It's a lot like Dead Rising; just so different and creative it's hard not to like it. And it keeps me interested too.

I'm definitely in the fan category. I've got the dragon.
