Something's fishy???

I just downloaded Corinne Bailey Rae's album (great deal BTW...$9.99 for 17 DRM-free songs). I burned the m4a files directly to a data CD from iTunes. I tried to play this disc in my AAC compatible stereo and....NO GO! Did Apple forget something when they created these new files? Like, removing the DRM! I wonder if anyone else is having problems with playback in non-iPod devices?

New files...

Somethings telling me that these aren't 'standard' AAC/MP4 files; they don't play in Windows Media Player which plays all my other DRM free AAC files ripped from CDs. They do work on VLC though (?)

I'm with you!

My Nokia N95, that otherwise can play DRM free AAC files, can't play these! What's wrong with that? They have made them DRM free, but now I can't play the files anyway.

Nice - tell everyone that they have gone DRM free and just make some other technical issue that prevents me from playing it on other players (again!).

I'm sure that there is a reason (not as evil as above) for this not to work.

Transferred to a PSP

Works fine as far as I can tell.

They don't show up in WMP 11 though. Any help?

No DRM, but watermarking?

I just saw an item on Slashdot that the DRM-free tracks embed the purchaser's acct info, including email address in the file.
If this is true, it might explain why the files confuse some AAC players. It seems a brilliant approach... the user can copy all they want, but their fingerprints remain on the track in case it somehow ends up posted publicly.
Technically they've removed copy protection, but not given up some degree of control over their property.
I'm sure this will sort itself out over the next few days :)

I'm upgrading my library

by ktreb - 5/30/07 9:02 PM In reply to: DRM free songs from iTunes finally here!! by Quiksilver7122

Out of 500 songs, only 24 are can be upgraded. Oh well...
And I can only update all, so I can't pick and choose.
Twice the quality, twice the size. I'm glad I upgraded to a laptop with more space.
And iTunes will get rid of the DRM'ed version if I want, or I can put it on a folder in my desktop. How convenient. Saves me from having to seek them out and delete them myself. :)
