DVI issues with LCD

so i just got a DVI-D dual link cable (a $10 off of amazon.com) for my monitor. i'm generally pleased with the quality, but i have two issues.

1. Random green pixels- occaisionally these show up after changing resolution, such as for a game. resetting the monitor or the input fixes this, but i'd like to know what causes it

2. windowboxing on 1440x900- i can't change the screen position because of the digital input, but at this resolution the display is windowboxed.
