snoy its way better whatever megapixel its all great just see cannon are mostly when people are asking or blurry pixs
For what's it worth--- I have a good friend who has been in the camera repair business for many years and based on his experience-- he sees a lot of Sony cameras coming in for repairs, many more than the Canons or Nikons or Pentaxes.
The answer is easy buy the Canon not only is it a better camera but never buy anything sony they are a scum bucket company
I know it's too late but I've had 3 digital cameras and the best point and shoot that I've had so far was my Cannon IXY 800 IS which is the same as the Cannon something 800. I got it on EBAY for 250$ overnight shipped from Hong Kong. It was selling in the stores for 450$ at the time. It has an image stabilizer to prevent low light blurry pics from happening and takes superb video. Both sony's I had sucked. The color never looked right on both. I think you will get better pics from the Cannon, but as you said. You already made the purchase. Good luck with it. If you change your mind, go with a Sony. They're just better.
>Good luck with it. If you change your mind, go with a Sony. They're just better.< That's ok, I know how to read tupo...ptyo...TYPO. LOL ![]()
At least Canon doesn't put a chip in their cameras that make YOUR pics "theirs" like SONY does!!!!!!!!!!!
For the record, I have a Canon AE-1 SLR that I bought brand new in 1984 when they FIRST came out...not problem one!!!
If I want my pics in digital format I scan them on my Canon SCANNER! This way I have the best of BOTH worlds ![]()
I own a number of Sony products, the Plasma TV, 2 old digital cameras, one HD camcorder, one SD camcorder, DVD, Home Entertainment system, etc. They work great and are reliable. I have no problem with their products for years. Sure they are not the best, but still way above average compared to other companies (though they do charge way more).
For cameras, I also have both Sony and Canon. My Sony cameras produce softer images, whereas my Canon cameras take sharper photos with richer colors. So for cameras, Canon is better than Sony in my experience. Of course you can fix this with Photoshop. To Sony's credit, it produces a lot of electronic components for other companies, including the sensors for the Nikon cameras. Of course Nikon cameras have a different image processor engine that sets its image apart from the Sony, even though the sensors are essentially the same.
But Sony camcorders are fantastic. My Sony HD camcorder produce stunning videos on my Sony Plasma TV. And my old Sony SD digital camcorder more than 10 yrs ago still work very well today.
I will put in a plug for Canon. I have used several models of Canon digital still cameras with great success. I also use a Canon digital video camera. What convinces me is they honour their warranty and more. A video camera failed long out of warranty. I contacted Canon by email, got a response in less than an hour and it was repaired free because they thought it was a vendor ccd problem. And there was a contact name on the email. Good to know they care.
I can't say that for Sony. Years back they proved to me they do not back their products at all. My opinion and experience . . .

Consider the Nikon for this reason. Nikon, Leica, and Ziess have superior lenses. The lens is the eye of the camera, so why not buy the best eyes. The rest of the camera is the brain and most camera brains are quality made and fairly equal these days. Other optics are good, my personal preferences are the best if possible.
Canon and Nikon lenses are similar in quality and price. Both have excellent lenses and not so good lenses. But overall they are equivalent.
