Can somebody help me with Call of Duty (PC) Installation plz

by g_harikrishnan - 5/16/07 2:56 PM

I bought the Call of duty (PC)and I tried installing the Cds that i bought. I'm running on Win XP-SP2. The first cd went well - asked for the cd key and then the installation started fine. But then after sometime it said insert the cd2 and press ok. I did that but there nothing happened. The Call of duty background just appears and nothing happens at all. The manual said, "Issues With Installer Properly Switching To Disc 2 During Installation:

Some users may find that, when they insert Disc 2 of Call of Duty™ in their CD-ROM drive, it will try to bring up the “splash” screen and not allow the installer to continue. If this happens, open your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. Hold down the Left Shift key. Reinsert Disc 2 of Call of Duty™ and keep the Left Shift key depressed until the CD or DVD drive stops reading the CD. This will disable the autoplay function of the drive and allow installation to proceed normally."

So i pressed the left shift key took out the cd and reinserted it, but even then nothing happened. I dontknow what to do now.. can somebody help me here please..

Thanks in advance

However if you tried that after you had disk 1 and it's installer asking for CD 2 you may have seen some success (at least I'm hopeful.)

Did you try that?

I dont understand you bob.. As i said the first disc went fine, then it said insert cd2 and press ok. I did that inserted cd2 and pressed ok. But then the installation froze!!!!

Any idea why this is happening... I tried a google search on this issue and seems like many ppl are facing this issue at various forums, but i couldnt find a solution anywhere. Some forums suggested that i copy the contents of cd2 and paste it in the Call of Duty folder.. I did that too, but then when i start the game with cd1, i am able to see the movie (the intoduction), then when i click on new game nothing happens..

Can anybody help me with this..

You found a possible solution but the way you wrote how you used it indicates you didn't grasp what their instructions. Or what you wrote didn't tell that you followed it.

Try again but follow their workaround.

But there is an additional key you have to hold down. Since you didn't follow their directions (your words above) I don't expect this to work.

The lockup could indicate PC issues but I'd like to read that you actually did as they asked. So far I don't see you did.

I told you already in my first post that i DID hold the Shift key, while inserting the cd2.. I did EVERYTHING THAT I WAS INSTRUCTED TO...

What else am i supposed to do?? Even then it could'nt be installed..

Yes, English.

A terrible language and I was quoting your words to show that the one step was missing in the sentence. There is no need to get upset over this since I must be absolutely sure about this minor step. Computers don't care if we are close or not. The issues hare are now going to move to looking at the PC. But you seem to have missed the forum note so now that we have the shift key all covered we get to look at the PC.

Now that I read you've tried that we have to tackle the PC.

Note: If you're asking for technical help, please be sure to include all your system info, including operating system, model number, and any other specifics related to the problem. Also please exercise your best judgment when posting in the forums--revealing personal information such as your e-mail address, telephone number, and address is not recommended.

Here's what I know about the PC -> Win XP-SP2.

Not much else. I leave it to you to tell the rest.

You have shared memory video so it's DOA.

Too bad you didn't write this at the beginning.

Game over,

What doesnt that mean!!

What does that mean?? Is there any solution to it.. Can i upgrade it or anything???

The Dell Inspiron 600...

by R. Proffitt Moderator - 5/23/07 6:30 AM In reply to: What doesnt that mean!! by g_harikrishnan

Or the one I see at dell.com does not offer upgradeable video systems. The only fix is to get a GAMER'S LAPTOP. Over in our Laptop Forum you see this discussed from time to time.

People who buy a model like yours want to see a software patch or driver to fix it, but that's up to the game maker to give that out. Sadly your machine didn't meet their minimums so the game was over before it installed (or crashed on install.)

Sorry but I'm going to decline writing a long answer to what was wrong. That has been written to far too many people in many forums so no need to write it again. Besides I'd have to type it in.
