Here's a walkthrough that I followed to fix this problem:
http://www.motorolacellphonespower.com/how-to-connect-a-krzr-to-your-pc/
It tells you how to do everything everyone is talking about here, and it shows pictures of everything. I got all sync'd by folowing it.
I downloaded the Vcast to my Windows XP (not needing the $29.00 rip-off Vcast music disc set), and since I had Media Player 10 I was able to transfer all my tunes (CD compilations) over in practically no time. I ordered a USB-5pin from Ebay for $6.99 and it came with driver mini-disc, as well as a car charger. It took a few times for the new hardware to be recognized, but it did and now I can just drag a tune to the playlist box in Vcast and it will transfer to the phone. I was lucky to find a 1Gb mini Sandisk at Radio Shack this weekend for $20.00 and grabbed it, this will give me about 250 songs to store.
I have done everything in all the threads here, including the fix-- am running WM version 10, and I still can't get my computer to recognize my krzr. (Verizon, by the way). You said you had to try several times to get it to recognize the hardware--did you just keep reconnecting it to the computer and running the wizard? I have spent hours on this and am getting more and more frustrated!
Thanks for any help!
I went into Motorola.com under their faq's section and found a section on transferring music to the K1m. It basically say (and I did do this) that when you are running Media player 10 you can plug in your phone, Sync from MP10-not using Vcast software at all-and add songs to your phone. It did work for me. I uninstalled the Vcast, and am using the mp10 only. I had a feeling that maybe the Vcast was interfering with mp10 while trying to sync, etc. I may also be wrong since I am not the computer genuis I think I am.

OK, so you're sure the music got successfully transferred to your K1m, but you still can't access it? Pop out the transflash card and connect it to your computer, either directly or via USB in a card holder (I use SanDisk's MobileMate SD+ and it works fine for this). Where are the mp3 and WMA music files sitting on the card? Assuming you're using Verizon, they should be "loose" in the "my_music" folder on the card, and not enclosed in any other folders within the "my_music" folder. (If you're on another carrier, you'll have to do some research yourself, as different carriers use different file systems and have different capabilities than the Verizon K1m I own). At last resort, just take the phone back to the store you bought it at and ask them to show you how it works.
THIS WORKS - have faith and give the cable a minute to find its drivers:

Well just a note that I love my new K1m, however after spending 4.5 hours with a Tier 3 tech support at Verizon and taking my laptop and Music Essentials Kit to the Verizon store the issue of downloading music from my pc to phone was never resolved. First they say one thing and then another. I even purchased more memory and tried downloading music on the card and installing in the phone with NO LUCK. Even Motorola said they didn't understand... I am hoping there will be a fix in the near future because building a library of music from Vcast at $1.99 per song is going to get pricey. I wish they just wouldn't put these phones out on the market without all the gear you need to use it. It does have a great stereo sound and the play buttons on the outside of the phone are great. Syncing is just not possible at this time... if I'm missing something, please someone let me know.
My son has a krazr and we were very frustrated trying to get it to play music on the MP3 player. I found a krazr driver online and it let my XP recognize the phone. But we never used that connection. Instead we got a memory card. The trick to getting the memory card to work is that the files you load have to be MP3s. If you just copy a CD to your hard drive it goes in as a WAV file. NTelos is our carrier and the store and tech support knew nothing about how to get the music to play. We had loaded WAV files on to the memory card and spend a couple of really frustrating days trying to get them to play. Finally a tech at Motorola told me to google something like "MP3 conversion" and I found freeware that converted the WAV files to MP3. They worked immediately in the KRAZR. Now that I understand that an MP3 player needs MP3 files it is all very clear and we felt like dummies because we didn't see that immediately. We never tried the phone's own storage because it was so small, but I guess you could go the USB route to load MP3 files into the phone's memory. Hope this helps. Since the solution here is so simple, maybe you already know all of this and are really asking another question. To be such a big part of the selling points of the krazr, I can't figure out why the retailers don't know more.
