So I bought a new LCD monitor today, the Samsung SyncMaster 906BW to be exact. Very nice monitor, and major improvement over my older lcd screen. Although I discovered something that leaves a bad taste in my mouth... On the show model in the store, there's a little sticker highlighting it's features, like 2ms response time and stuff, and also "HDCP". I guess I looked quick, because I thought it said "HDMI" or something that supports a high-end video cable (I didn't know what HDCP was anyway at the time had I'd seen it). I wasn't going to use it, but I though it would be cool to have. So I get home and play a DVD, and to my surprise it won't play. Black screen, but I hear sound from the movie. So I do a little research on this HDCP thing, and find out that it is the thing that's causing my DVD's not to play. Apparently, if the monitor has HDCP, then the video card does too in order to play movies. I have an older Geforce 7800 GT, which doesn't have it. So now, I'm stuck. I can't play any DVD's on my nice new screen, one of the reasons I bought it in the first place. If I have to return it, I will, and get a monitor that doesn't have this HDCP, but I hope I don't have to. I just bought the monitor, so I'm not buying a new video card to replace the one I have, which works fine. Is there anyway around this at all, to get my DVD's to play? Thanks in advance.
Does it work if you play the DVD with VLCPLAYER?
Second question.
What DVD player software did you use?
Bob
Yea, VLC Player plays the DVDs. I was using WMP11 before, so maybe that's why, because Microsoft is in support of this HDCP stuff. Thanks a lot!
Second question.
What DVD player software did you use?
WMP does not play DVDs as supplied. Microsoft didn't pay the license fee to mpegla.com to give us free DVD play.
Bob
But I used WMP before to play DVDs with no problem. Just after I got this monitor and put the driver in it didn't play. No matter though, the program you said works fine. Thanks again.
There was another software installed to do that. So far I don't see which you used or whoever installed "what?" to make WMP do this.
It seems confusing at first, but it's not.
