Windows Vista: downgrading from vista to xp

I have the same chipset (I think)

by Howlleo - 8/19/07 9:53 AM In reply to: Success! by Vaelaar

Hi, Vaelaar:
I also have an AMD. Are you saying that AMD chipsets don't need SATA feed when you install XP? That would be a big load off my head, since I have no USB floppy nor any particular use for one after this.

Have You Contacted Gateway?

by Grif Thomas Moderator - 5/15/07 3:10 PM In reply to: Windows Vista to Windows XP by Ikith

If not, many of them can be found by using Google...(Intel.com for chipset, ethernet, and graphics, Broadcom.com, Western Digital should have the SATA drivers, etc.)

Hope this helps.

SATA

by Ikith - 5/16/07 12:49 AM In reply to: Have You Contacted Gateway? by Grif Thomas Moderator

Where can I find the SATA Drivers for the XP text based installer since it cant find my drives! I've tryed many drivers and all the time it comes up as not found... Do I have to format vista? or do I have to have the correct drivers (I'm integrating then using nLite if that helps any) Thanks.

Once Again...Have You Checked With Gateway?

by Grif Thomas Moderator - 5/16/07 10:52 AM In reply to: SATA by Ikith

..and did you follow the suggestions I made earlier? We can't do the work for you.. As mentioned, Western Digital probably has the SATA drivers but you'll need to install them with a floppy drive during the XP installation with the standard F6 procedure. If you don't have a floppy drive on the machine, buy or borrow a USB floppy drive.

Read all the other posts in this long thread. It will give you an understanding of what needs to be done.

Hope this helps.

SATA for HP m8000n

by shootsbooz - 5/18/07 2:37 PM In reply to: Once Again...Have You Checked With Gateway? by Grif Thomas Moderator

I can't seem to find SATA drivers for my new HP m8000n. I have already tried the HP website and tech support. They sent links to most of the XP Drivers for the system (chipset, Video, Audio, Etc.), but they left out a SATA drive controller. They don't even have XP Pro listed as a supported OS. My system just hangs (won't reboot etc.), or just stops working during my XP pro install, so I am in Limbo (can't get to Vista, and XP won't install) – any help would be great..

Contacted The Hard Drive Manufacturer?

by Grif Thomas Moderator - 5/19/07 12:55 PM In reply to: SATA for HP m8000n by shootsbooz

Open the case and check for the specific hard drive model and the manufacturer of such.. Although I can find that it's a 500 GB SATA drive by checking HP's website, it doesn't mention the brand name of the drive. You should be able to get the SATA drivers from the hard drive manufacturer.

For example, here's one for Western Digital drives plus the chart for finding other drive model SATA controller drivers:

Hope this helps.
