I've seen reviews on the LG BH 100 Hybrid DVD that its output is 1080p only on televisions that can receive 1080p/24, otherwise the LG outputs 1080i. My first question is whether the Samsung 5053 Plasma can output 1080p/24 or is it 1080p/60? If the LG player would not get the most out of the television what other Blu ray device would be most compatible? Is it possible that the Samsung "Duo HD" player scheduled for release later this year might be more compatible and output 1080p/60?
the samsung 1200 bluray player. Everyone that has it seems to love it & scores top on BluRay & Std dvd playback. It can output 1080p60fps & 1080p24fps

Movies are filmed at 24fps!!! HD-DVD/B-Ray movies will be at 24fps!!!
There is no media currently that is 1080p/60!!! Maybe some video games maybe, but nothing else for some time to come.
It has been a while since it posted this so I'll post it again.
SD video bandwidth 3.5mhz
DVD/ED video bandwidth 11mb/s
OTA broadcast video bandwidth 18mb/s
MinDV/DV video 25mb/s
720p video 49mb/s
1080i video 52mb/s
1080p/24 60mb/s
1080p/30 70mb/s
1080p/60 135mb/s
It has taken over 20 years to HDTV to where it is today, and that is 720p/1080i and 1080p/24. The HDMI 1.3 is less than a year old it may be 20 more years before there is any 1080p/60 content.
Everyone in the industry is struggling to get up and running on 720p/1080i. John
John, I'm grateful for the information on 1080p! I just found out this morning that my Samsung 5053 is only capable of 1080i. Based on your expertise, what difference would I notice since my television is not capable of 1080p? Secondly, would it make a difference to pair a Samsung Blu-ray with a Samsung television since they're made by the same manufacturer or would I receive results just as effective from the LG BH 100 model? Many thanks again for your helpful insights. Steve
you would like to save a little money & have both formates (hddvd & bluray)...
Amazon
'Toshiba HD-A2 HD-DVD Player' is $277.88 & the Samsung 1200 player for $669.95.
Note the first qurter of this year bluray had 70% of the sales (discs)
The duel players lack many of the extra goodies found on stand alone hddvd players.
