I have a 360 and I'm torn between getting the Xbox 360 version or the 880. Any suggestions?
Try eBay, you can get a good deal.
all harmony remotes generally do the same thing. i got el cheapo 520, and my only real complaint is that it makes a "click" noise for the volume and channel buttons. I wish the click was utterly silent for music listening... you could possibly make a decision on something simple as that, fwiw, best of luck.
That was my big complaint too...the clicking. I like to surf and there is non stop clicking noise as i go through the channels...what brainiac designed that remote? Must have been a chick.
The remote is cool, but does require extra button pushing to control devices you want to control after you get everything all turned on. Honestly, I still use all my old remotes instead of the new Harmony 550.
One day I may switch over to it...reprogram the 4 directional buttons to do the channels and volume...they dont make the clicking sounds.
costco carries one of them...
i bought the HK TC 30 (same as one of the Logitech's) on ubid for $119 and love it.

This solved a lot of problems--previously I used my receiver's remote and it was a nightmare trying to program it.
Now my wife can actually operate the television--what a concept.
The 880 is a breeze to setup and operate. Initially I choked on the price (for a remote??) but it was well worth it.
I love my TC 30. It's made by Logitech as well, it's just marketed as Harman/Kardon. All buttons backlit, color screen, and the labels are engraved, so they won't wear off (unlike the 550). Prepare to spend a few hours truly customizing it to your liking, but it's quite comprehensive and will control everything but a PS3 (which doesn't seem like it'll be an issue for you). I even have it controlling my ceiling light and fan.
And it has a great-feeling rubber texture on the bottom; weird, soft and smooth, and yet it doesn't feel like it would slide out of your hand. And SOOO much better looking than the 8xx series...
It does click on Vol +/-, Channel +/-, and the directional keys, but I don't consider it a big deal. I would definitely go to Radio Shack and ask them to open up a 550, which is very similar other than the monochrome screen, and I think the 550 and the Xbox one are the same except for the screen color. Maybe, I don't remember. There's also a Harmony 720 which is closer to the TC 30. The other caveat I see people bring up is the cradle. Honestly, it's not that hard! I don't understand how people have a problem with. But I've seen it in enough comments that I feel compelled to mention it. But I wouldn't give it a second thought... But hey, maybe I just have superior motor skills. =P
Anyway, my receiver is about 5 years old, and since the remote is pre-programmed I couldn't control my newer components. So this was a good fit for me. It's not quite as fast as some remotes, like if you really like to speed surf through channels, it MAY slow you down a bit. So definitely see if you can get one out of the box to hold.
Investigate the process of making Activities, and designing the menus for each activity. You could probably shoot logitech an e-mail if you can't find any info. It's an important departure from standard remotes. Some people don't like it. I wasn't sure, but I dig it now. It really is one button to turn everything on, one button to turn everything off. The only times I've pulled out my old remotes was for calibrating the TV for new video sources, and calibrating the speaker levels.
And the Wife Acceptance Factor on this thing is off the charts!! They friggin' love it. ![]()
Highly recommended.
Best,
Ben
