unable to connect to the internet

by FpLiOnYkD - 5/8/07 5:48 PM

I just got a dsl line and I am unable to connect to the Internet. I have tried using IE7, IE6, and Firefox. My antivirus is updating, so I am connected just unable to use a browser. When using IE6 or 7, I receive the following message.

Windows cannot connect to the internet using HTTP,HTTPS,or FTP. This is probably caused by firewall settings.

When I use Firefox, I receive a timed out error message.

I have disabled my windows firewall, and that did not help. It is not my ISP because my other laptop works.

I am using Winodws XP service Pak 2. Thanks for any info you can give me

Go to start- all programs -accessories- Command Prompt.

In the command prompt type ipconfig/renew

Try your internet.

If it does not work paste the information from the ipconfig/renew in this fourm please

Hope this helps!!

Also do you have antispyware? If you dont you should get some. Spyware could hve changed your hosts file. I have AVG antispyware- You get it at free.grisoft.com
