iRiver clix 2nd gen

by Jerry9254 - 4/28/07 2:08 PM

Well, this player IMO looks pretty sweet. I was considering the D2... but then i saw that this came in 8 gb. So... I have some questions about it:

1) When does the 8gb go up for sale? I didn't see it on sale anywhere

2) I know i won't be watching too many movies on it, but for plane flights etc., so how do you get movies on it? easy or hard?

3) Uses WMP10, right?

4) What is your opinion on it, only if you've seen it or heard it (most of the user opinions are by people who haven't even touched the player)

Don't pick clix2 just for 8gb

I can't comment too much on the new Clix, but I have a D2 and an old Clix. First of all, if 8gb vs. 4gb is a big selling point for you, remember that D2 is expandable via SD, so you can easily get 8+ now that it supports high capacity SD cards.

Getting movies on either Clix2 or D2 is a matter of converting it first, and there are free programs for either player that will do this easily and well.

Not sure about WMP10/11 because I never use it, but I would guess that both players support it.

My opinion of the Clix2 in general is mostly based on the Clix 1, which is a great player. I definitely prefer the D2 over clix1, and my understanding is that the clix2's improvement over the first is just better video playback and a sleeker design; so I'd still pick the D2. D2 has twice the battery life, although clix2 has 25hrs which is plenty, not sure how important that is to you. CNET really praises the Clix interface, which is certainly a good one, but man I love the D2 interface with touch screen. Also, D2 has a larger screen, 2.2 vs 2.5 inch. Side by side, it's noticeable, but they are both nice screens.

Anyways, you can't really go wrong with either player. Ignore all the one-sided iRiver or Cowon fans, and just appreciate the fact that both companies make players that are good enough to actually build a die-hard fanbase.

Yep, i know they're great players, but it's choosing between 'em. I haven't got to see either in-person because no local stores have them (it's a shame, aint it?).

I basically want any info from a person that has used both players, because one of the user reviews on cnet said that he liked the 2nd gen clix over the D2.

I still am liking the D2 ALOT. It's got a big, bright, 25 million color screen, and the way that the stylus acts as a stand is really cool. Cowon has a lot of info on the D2 in their site, but iriver doesn't have anything about it.
