What Sony HDD would you suggest???

by jjt2200 - 4/16/07 5:55 PM

I am having a new child in July and i really like the new dcr-sr42,62,82. What would be the most bang for my buck out of these three? I know the 42 has the 40x optical zoom which i really like. But can anyone please let me know. I am also pondering maybe the new dcr-sr200, would that be better then the 42-82? I am not looking to take pictures with the camcorder just to capture video. Thanks for any suggestions or help you can offer.

The SR42 ($600) is the low-end model and you shouldn't expect a lot out of it (and you won't). The SR62 ($650) has an upgraded CCD sensor which yields better video quality, a bigger LCD screen, and less optical zoom. The SR82 ($750) has the same sensor as the 62, but has twice the hard disk drive(HDD) capacity for more video. The SR200 ($850) has an upgraded CMOS sensor that will give better quality than any of the ones just mentioned. The SR300 ($1000) will give the best quality because its CMOS sensor is again bigger than the rest mentioned. The SR300C ($1200; just announced by Sony) has the first 100GB built-in HDD for any camcorder to date, but the other specs are the same as the 300.

Make sure you have read the Camcorders Forum Sticky at the top of the camcorders Forum. Be sure to follow all of those tips.

It's hard to say which will be the best bang for your buck until we find out what your limit is.

PS: Prices are directly from Sony's website. All can be found for less at local or online retailers.

Have you really considered Mini DV instead, it offers better picture quality at a better price than HDD. now is the convenice of a HDD all that important over a better picture and a cheaper price? if so tell me and i will show you some good cameras.
