Panasonic 42-PHD8UK (42PHD8UK) parts schematic, glass broken

by throckmortona - 4/22/07 12:25 PM

I have a Panasonic 42PHD8UK that unfortunately hit the floor unattended and broke the front glass. I'm looking for a parts schematic or some other resource to see how to take it apart to replace the front glass panel. The TV works fine and it appears the plasma display sits at least a 1/4" to 3/8" behind the glass panel. Has anyone had experience replacing the front glass on a Panasonic model or have a schematic that shows how the TV comes apart so I can do it myself. It appears all I need to do is get the plastic frame off the TV, remove the glass panel and replace it with another piece of glass.

They May sell you it, I know the sony 1 you can find on the net for like $20 & it is 200 some pages long. Best to have a repair person come out, because I doubt that Panasonic will sell you the replacement part since, I am guessing, your Not a TV repair person? + there could be some damage that you don't know about

whats up man, i bought a non working 42' fujitsu plasma that was defective. it powered on but didnt have a picture. Anyway, i just spent a couple hours tearing it apart, messing with connectors hoping that maybe something just got rattled and it would show a picture again. well, i saw your post and noticed that what you said was true. when i opened it there are actually 3 pieces of glass in the TV. the first piece is connected to the frame with brackets. it is just a tinted piece of anti-reflective glass that is just there to protect the plasma panel. this is intact with the frame. It can be removed by a few screws. well under it are 2 pieces of glass that are stuck/smashed together by i dont know what, but these two peices are the actuall plasma panel. you can see the pixels within this glass piece. I believe that when these two panes of glass are broken, then it is pretty much unrepairable(or too xpensive to fix $2500 and up). But if just the outer protective glass is broken, and the inside 2 are intact. then its just a matter of replacing the outer glass. the frame removes easily by like 8 screws behind the panel. Dont worry this doesnt release the gases inside. the gases or whatever are sandwiched between the 2 inner sheets of glass. around these 2 pieces are somekind of resin/sealant to prevent the gases from escaping or just to keep them sealed tightly together.
anyway, i just wanted to let you know i have a 42" piece of glass from a 42' plasma TV that i would be willing to sell cheap. i am in san antonio,tx..but i can ship it for you if you need me too. i can take some pics of the front and back just so you can see what i mean.
take it easy.

one more thing

by j_enrikez - 5/10/07 1:52 AM In reply to: i think i can help you. by j_enrikez

oh also, i forgot to mention that even after i removed the frame and the front glass, the plasma panel still powered up and showed the same screen it did before..just a gray color. like the panel was on, but no picture. it was just the same as before i had removed the front frame and glass.
