No it works now. However some other problems are popping up, so I think something might be wrong with the hardware or poer supply as well. Thanks for thinking with me though.
I put together a 2.8GHz Pentium 4 running Windows XP. Has an Abit 848P mainboard, 512MB DDR, ATI Radeon 9200SE, and a Creative PCI Soundblaster, all in an aluminum Enermax case. Also used some hardware off of the old PC: HP CD Writer (slow but useable), 3.5" floppy drive, and a 30GB harddrive. The only thing I've added since putting it together is an additional 180GB harddrive for storage. It's been a great system, and has easily met all of my computing needs. I've only now just considered possibly upgrading it, but I'd be happy with this system for the foreseeable future.
Well, I have a cheap system that I bought the base system and have been adding components to it gradually. So, I guess it's a Custom computer.
My unit is a HP Pavilion purchased 3 1/2 years ago. I have upgraded the memory, the HD, video card, the monitor and OS from WIN 98 to XP. It works very well and I won't be replacing it any time soon.
I have:
Intel Celeron 333 MHz CPU
128 Mb RAM
HDDs: Seagate ST91685AG 1579 Mb, Samsung SV0761D 7281 Mb
CD-ROM: LG CRD8483B
FDD: 1.44"
Modem: Agere Systems PCI Soft Modem (I use it for Fidonet)
DSL Modem: D-Link DSL-500T
Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC
Intel(R) 82810 Graphics Controller (2 Mb)
Monitor Samtron 55EM
Standart keyboard (101 buttons)
Mouse A4Tech+scroll
Operating system: Windows XP Professional
What do you think about it? :)))
I have recently purchased a Dell Dimension E521 system preloaded with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium. In general it works well, I have actually recommended three friends to purchase the same system and they are all happy with it.
My only complaint is that some of the programs, drivers that came with the system are actually incompatible with Vista. I have had to spend a good deal of time online retrieving drivers etc., to stop a constant flow of error messages appearing whenever I start the system. All in all a pretty good system especially for newbies.

I know its old but it works fine. It was originally a KDS Tiger that I bought at a back yard sale for $150.(included printer, scanner, oak desk, CDs, games, and several other things.) What it is now I have no idea. After lightning destroyed the original mother board and processor, my friend rebuilt it about 2-3 years ago. It does have an AMD Sempron processor and runs xp pro, But what else he did to it is a mystery to me. It suits my needs and can do everything my nephews year old dell does, but mines faster. Thank God for intelligent computer nerd friends. To date I've only spent about $450. and it all still works.
Mine's a Compaq Presario. Updated RAM is only change so far. Intend to get a second hard drive and a better DVD burner. Otherwise, very satisfied with the HP.
every 2 years I change or upgrade something in so I not need to buy a new one.
I have a basic old 2001 Celeron 1.7ghz. 160gb HDD, 1gig ram, ASUS mobo, I bought it s/hand for $200 in 2003. Its mainly used for web surfing and E-mail, plus a few games for an old timer like me. I'm only using ME, but the benefit of using that OS is when everything slows down, I wipe & do a fresh install off my 40gig laptop hdd. The copy on the 40gig is 'clean' with no infections at all. I'd wait a fair while until they get all the bugs out of Vista, stick with your version of XP or whatever.
I am pleasantly surprised to see so many people out there still running old PCs. I have just bought a 1.6 GigHz PC and put XP onto it but, despite all the extra memory and tweaks, my old 500MHz PC (Win98se) starts up and shuts down 4 times faster and is just as (if not more) reliable.
I also have several Pentium ONE PCs, 64 Megs Memory, Win98se, running 8Meg Broadband, and they all thrash XP and Vista any day. The only reason anyone could possibly have for a new super PC is to play games or possibly manipulate large photos.
Personally, I think Microsoft (ooops sorry... bad language) should recall Vista and compensate everyone who bought it.
I build my new computer from components: Intel Pentium D (LGA 775), Abit motherboard (AB9 Pro), 2 gigs of ram, 3 300 gig Seagate hard drives (SATA), 450 watt power supply, 7 in 1 multifunction floppy drive, two DVD drives (one read / write).
My main 'PC' is a four year old Dual 2gig Mac G5 tower. I also use a two year old Dell E510 with a dual core Pentium D processor. I use the Mac the most and it is still pretty fast. Two 2gig G5 processors really crank. The PC is used for games and CastBlaster. I have an aging eMachines laptop that I use on the road. It has an AMD 64 processor.
I am planning to get a new Macbook Pro later in the year to replace the the eMachines and possibly even the Dell.
nice to see a mac guy out there...ive got a powerpc imac g4 and a macbook planning to upgrade imac to a 24' intel
Less than 1year old...HP Pavilion AMD Athlon(tm)64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ 2.00GHZ,960MB of RAM Physical Address Extension.
It came with a 19 inch Monitor that is really nice.It is Vista compatible & I got the free upgrade kit. In another yr or so I will then convert to Vista. The computer runs very well & I got it at SAM's on sale for around $900. I'm now adding another GB of RAM put in it.
