So when I boot my PC, I am asked to choose between booting up XP Home and XP Pro. The OS I want is XP Pro, and when I choose it, everything works perfectly. I would just like to know how to remove the XP Home option from the startup prompt.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!
From a CLEAN Install of the OS..or a Re-Install of the OS..
..
TAP...F2....to open the System Set-UP Program..
and look for an ACOUSTIC MODE for the HDD(system drive)..and CHOOSE--->>Performance..
..
Check that your PC is operating with the Correct RAM Modules..
333MHz...400MHz...1065MHz...RAM Speed..
which Processor do you USE..P4 uses PC3200-RAM Modules..
..Celeron D uses the PC2700 RAM Modules..and the NEW Core 2 DUO uses a PC8500 RAM Module..
Got the correct RAM Modules..??..for your CPU..??
..
NEXT...is your RAM Module/if your useing ONLY 1-RAM Module../in the correct SLOT..??..usually closest to the Processor..or called SLOT-0..
..
Are you INSTALLING your OS(Windows XP)useing the Optical BOOT-drive..??
NOT from your DESKTOP..<Browse the CD>and INSTALL..
..
REMOVE all Peripherals and PCI-expansion CARDS when performing a OS re-Install..
..
But I would question the RAM Modules and the HDD Acoustics in System Set-UP..
..
Then the PCI-expansion SLOTS..
..
then the Power Supply..lastly..is there a Power fault happening..??
..
PCs need certain settings to run really good..even then they don't last forever..you must do it all over again..
..
RAM Modules..during a OS Install..should not be over 512 MBs..and your PAGEFILE should be SET TO System Managed SIZE=754MBs..later you can UPGRADE w/devices..
..
Be sure that the LAST--40-PIN Flat(data)Cable Connector is on an OPTICAL Drive thats also ENABLED as the BOOT Drive in SYSTEM SET UP..one of my PCs uses the D:/...and another uses the E:/its all about the very last FLAT--40PIN Connctor..and ENABLED as the BOOT Drive in F2(System Set Up)..
..
Thats about all I can think of.
Thanks for the concern. I don't really see a reason that this problem should be hardware-related, as everything currently (and has always been) working fine. Just for good measure, I'm running an AMD X2 4400+ with 3 gigs of RAM (not sure of the type).
I can definitely tell ya when it started happening though: Basically, my machine went from Win XP Home, to Win XP Pro (upgrade), back to Win XP Home (re-install). Now... it seems there are 2 versions of the windows OS on my machine (pro and home edition), and I only need to use one (Pro). So esentially, that final installation of Windows XP Home should've never happened.
I deleted the files relating the home edition that was re-installed on my system, but the startup still recognizes it and prompts me to choose which OS I want to boot.
I thought it'd be a quick fix, but now I'm not so sure. If ya have any other suggestions/questions, please reply.

amend your Boot.ini file. Google it for directions.
yep.. knew it would be pretty simple to fix. Thanks for the help!!
I had the same problem...useing a XP Pro Upgrade CD..when my original OS was XP-Home Edition..
The XP-Home Edition was SP1..
the Upgrade CD was SP2..XP-Pro..
I was also useing a CD from Microsoft called the SP2 UPDATE CD for SP1..
I think this was my problem..along w/useing two RAM Modules during the OS Re-Install..a 256 MB and a 512 MB Ram Module..
So..
you might try..Just Install the XP-Home Editon..do not UPDATE it..
Install the XP-Pro Upgrade CD..and UPDATE that..
Be sure and only use a single RAM MODULE..512 MAX..
and dis-connect all Peripherals..and PCI-expansion CARDS..
That should show some improvement..
If not..I would question my RAM Modules.
