Is there anyway to get Vista to understand that when I click on a program to open I really do want it to open? It's constantly asking me if I trust the program, even though I've just used it a minute before. Is there a way to shut that feature down or get it to allow certain programs? It's annoying as all getout.
Go to the control panel, user accounts and disable the user account control.
The purpose of the "feature" is to prevent rogue programs from launching, who knows what, programs without you knowing it. It seems that there should be a learning capability so you can teach Vista which programs are OK.

This seems logical. With "User Account Control" enabled I have three shortcut icons on the desktop with a "security shield" superimposed on the lower right of the shortcut icon. Every time the shortcut is clicked to load these programs Vista asks for authentication by jumping through all the hoops to load the software. It's annoying and a waste of time. These simple programs are SpywareBlaster, Spyware Guard and Spybot Search & Destroy.
If anyone knows a way to end this annoyance, I sure would like to know the answer.
Thanks,
Glenn
I think that Vista don't learn here. It is my computer, my programs and my Vista, who shoud work for me. no me for Vista. I dissable the user account too. Sometimes I field guilty about it and enable but I change back.
I will like to know another reason to leave enable UAC. Meanwhile I shutoff it.
When I was using Windows XP I never once got a virus because I am using a real good anti-virus (NOD32) which stops the virus and trojans before they even have a chance to finishing downloading. I also have Windows Defender, Ad Aware, Spyware Blaster and Spybot Search and Destroy. How is some annoying prompt that comes up everytime you open a certain program or change a certain setting going to protect me. My ant-ivirus would catch it before it even had a chance to run. I don't want to keep clicking Allow every time I want to run my backup program.
However I can keep UAC enabled but it does not do anything by running as a true administrator. When I had to reformat for some reason Windows put me down as a true administrator but if it does just search for Admin Approve Mode in a search engine and there should be a link that will tell you how to run as a true administrator. It even tells you how to change it for people who are running the home version and not telling you to open Group Policy when Home versions does not have it.
For Windows Vista Ultimate/Business/Enterprise:
1- Click Start, and type "secpol.msc" in the search area and click Enter. (You may receive a prompt from UAC, approve/login and proceed)
2- In the left list, choose "Local Policies", then "Security Options"
3- Set "Accounts: Administrator account status" to Enabled.
4- Set "User Account Control: Admin Approval Mode for the Built-in Administrator account" to Disabled.
For Windows Vista Home Basic/Home Premium:
1- Click Start, and type "cmd" in the search area, right click on "Command Prompt" and select 'Run as Administrator".
2- In the command prompt type "net users Administrator /active'" (Note the capital "A" in Administrator) and press Enter, you will get a confirmation as "The command completed successfully".
3- Click Start, and type "regedit" in the search area and click Enter, navigate to: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
Double click on "FilterAdministratorToken" and set it to "0"
*************************************
Now log-off, and you'll see new account named "Administrator" is available, click on it to login.

By the way, the model number is "dv6809WM" not "WN". (At least I can find no such "WN" model number made by HP or Compaq.) The notebook computer comes from the factory with Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 installed... and unless someone took the computer, wiped the drive, then reinstalled W95, it doesn't have the old operating system installed .. Please see the link below for the specs for your computer:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01438926&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3708190
So let's start from the beginning.. Start the computer and look to see which operating system loads, then let us know.. If indeed, someone has wiped the hard drive of your computer and installed W95, then you need to use the recovery disc for your Vista machine and reinstall everything back to its original state.
Hope this helps.

when i click on properties on ie7 it has no other choices to choose from it says running in windows 95 and it is all type in a Grey area so you can not change. windows vista disk did not come with this new computer. they said we would not need it cause the was already installed in the computer. i have put it back to default setting a few times and the ie7 still keeps running in windows 95 my computer is real slow. i think the 95 in ie7 is what making it so slow.you can write me at shamm1313@juno.com
In the properties of the IE shortcut in the Quick Launch toolbar there's a checkbox on the compatibility tab (at least in my XP) that might allow you to run the program in a socalled compatibility mode. That is: let it 'think' it's running under Windows 95 although in fact it's running under Windows XP (Windows Vista in your case). But it's grey because the checkbox isn't checked. And the checkbox is grey because (as shown in the explanation above) IE is a part of XP (part of Vista in your case). So I think you misunderstand what you see.
What exactly do you mean with "put back to default setting"? What do you do then and how do you do it? And after you do that, the computer is still slow?
