Dish or Directv?

by kcfvegas - 4/7/07 1:19 PM

Hi everyone, I've had Dish network for several years now and I've been happy with it. But I'm moving to Las Vegas and I see that Dish doesn't offer locals in HD, but Directv does. I've tried to find out from Dish when they may offer locals there in HD but no one can say.
So here's the question, how would you rate Directv to Dish? It would be great to hear from someone who has tried both.
Thanks, vegas.

I HAVE DISH AND I LOVE IT

Vegas would be my dream place to live With all the neat shows you really dont need a t.v. ha ha. OK if you have the hi-def system which you must have if you own a hi-def t.v. then throw up a cheap outside antenna Do a over the air digital scan and all thoes lovely Vegas station will go into your main menue for easy access I would check Dish again because here in the bay area you can order all the network channels in hi-def for $5,00 extra per month. I chose to use a outside antenna because I pick up 16 digital channels over the air . Also make sure you order the Hi-Def and VOOM package only $15.00 extra per month If you have a hi-def set then get the 211 system from Dish has the built in over the air hi-def tuner and it works awsome In closing first thing you do in Veagas is see the Star Treck Experience at the hilton Ceasers palace has I-Max and other virtual reality shows and finally the Lexor. has virtual reality shows that will knock your socks off and finally the rolor coaster at New York New York have fun and please post back if I can help you more stewee

As a regular forum-monger here and elsewhere

Go with Dish over DirectTv. Everywhere I look, people say that DirectTV is too compressed. I would agree with the numerous times that I've seen it. I am not the best source of opinion as a cable user, but I do hang out in numerous forums way too much . . .

Perhaps you can use OTA antennae for the local stations? This plus Dish should give you substantially better pq than Directtv.

Different Compression?

Sorry it took so long to get back to this posting, but with Easter stuff going on, well you know. Anyway, I had never heard of there being different compression levels between Dish and Directv. I thought both satalite systems would have the same picture quality.

tried both

by bderou2 - 4/14/07 4:16 AM In reply to: Dish or Directv? by kcfvegas

Hi!
I've been on both Direct and Dish. While at the time, I was perfectly happy with Direct, I had a very, very bad experience with them when I bought a house and tried to get my servcie moved. I won't go into the details, but needless to say, I'm a MUCH happier Dish customer now! I switched because of the customer service problem, but I'm staying because of the better quality of the service.

As the first person that responded said, if you're interested in locals in HD, use a good off-air antenna. I have a Channel Master 4221 and it blows the other guys out of the water. Locals in HD are not available in my area either.

Save yourself some grief, stay with Dish!

Dish TV HD Antenna

by ashbrook - 4/14/07 5:56 AM In reply to: tried both by bderou2

Just completed a move from South Florida to Central Florida and used the Dishmover. Been a customer with Dish from the beginning. Very happy with the service, but disappointed that the locals out of Orlando do not broadcast in HD. So looks like an antenna. Will research the Channel Master 4221 and try to come up with a solution. Any suggestions on antenna/installation are welcome.

I am Amaized and quite pleased.

Thank you all for the nice things you said about Dish.

I have had Dish for about a year and all is great with a
small conflict with TIVO. It has something to do with
channel changing.

But that is not the point. I have questioned my decision to
take Dish Network over Direct TV since I installed it.

In my apartment complex I am literally the only Dish user. All the
others, About 50 out of 300 apartments have Direct TV

So thanks very much for the positive feedback. I almost did not
read this thread, because I feared the opinions would be just
the opposite.

You made my day
Thanks
Richard
