I just purchased a laptop with Vista Home Premium. On the sidebar I put the analog clock and the weather gadget. There was always alongside the gadgets an 'x', a wrench (tools). All of a sudden instead of a clock I just have the outline of the clock and it's colored black with no numbers and not working. The weather gadget is the same. Everything I have tried including a system restore does not bring the gadgets in the sidebar to work. What am I doing wrong?
I have not seen this exact problem but many similar.
First turn it off. Right click the icon in the notification
tray ( formerly known as the system tray ) and close it.
Click the start button and enter " side " into the search
box. Click on Windows Sidebar Properties and see if anything
looks wrong. That probably will not help so than go to
the program file C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\Gagets
and delete the file.
Reboot ( that may not be necessary but it is worth the time. )
Than reopen the sidebar Control Pannel/windows sidebar/
and click on Start with windows.
That should restart the sidebar. Than you can right click a blank
space on the sidebar and click on Add Gagets.
Hope this helps, Please post back if it does not work.
Good Luck
Richard
Thanks for your speedy reply. Before I got a chance to use your method, I called support. They suggested that since this is a new computer and that I didn't have many files on it yet, that I just use 'restore to factory' and start all over. I did that and all is well. I wish I had gotten you reply first though. It probably would have been a quicker and easier fix. Thanks again.
