I'm just wondering, I'll buy a new laptop with home vista premium, and go back to uruguay, where most people will have xp and a lot of people still uses win 98.
So here is my question will I be able to share files and do anything with out trouble? Because I know vista has a new file system. I dont know a lot about it but I think 98 uses fat32 and xp uses ntfs and that is not a problem is it the same with vista now?
thanks a lot, Marcelo.
Original plans to revamp the file storage on Vista were dropped. It would have been a better system, but at least it's more compatible the way it is. FAT32 is obsolete. Other threads in the Vista forum show people's problems/solutions for networking and file sharing between Vista and XP.
still uses ntfs, how come there are problems with file sharing?
It's still the same NTFS system. I'm aware of issues with firewall settings, making devices recognize each other, and the like. But people succeed once they find out what to do.
I installed Vista as dual boot with Windows XP on the same laptop. I can access the XP files without any problem. The XP filesystem is NTFS and so is Vista. I was asked for adminsitrator account password before I could access the XP files belonging to my old XP account. Once Vista changed the permissions, there was no problem.
another question....
if I have vista, when microsoft releases a service pack, do I have to pay for it?
third party software to install the two os on same machine?
thanks
I used bcedit to manage Vista bootloader since it is difficult to configure from the command line.
where can i get it?
thanks, marcelo.
It is free, though the writer would appreciate a donation. It is available from http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=1
I used this tool to configure the Vista bootloader.
thanks a lot!
