built front projector out of JVD 65 HD RPTV ketstone ideas

by b carras - 4/10/07 8:40 AM

had a 2004 RPTV JVC 65 in 16-9 with a busted screen that i picked up on craiglist for $120 that had very low hrs as it had been sitting for almoast 2 years . removed chassis and made it into a floor sitting projector.the picture is a bright as my 1000 lumen HD70 projector with mind blowing color and contrast . the short commings are the bottom picture starts just 4 inches off floor and i had to slant the screen off the wall at the top 6 inches to tame the keystone . would like to hooked it to my computer and find a video card under $200 that has a DVI out and will keystone so please recomend a card . has any body out there done any conversions like this ? this is my 3rd CRT RPTV conversion and my first true HD CRT front projector. have pics just email me at sbcarras@comcast.net

Sounds awsome I still dont know how you pulled that one off. because front projectors have special c.r.t.s that are much brighter than standard rear projectors t.v.s and with the mirror that rear projectors have? cant see how it would work at all. also front projectors have no keystone adjustment so you would have to hang the projector level to the middle of the screen If it works sure would like to know why . The only front projector that really impresed me was the new Sony $5000 projector tru 70M.M. quality. Also the first hi-def set I owned was the 65" Sony 3 tube beast. looked great but no brightness at all if you cranked up brightness and contrast all the way up it still was not bright enough and picture would bloom got rid of it on e-bay for $300 and only a year old now have a 72" d.l.p. Toshiba rear projector that is blazing brite would like to know more and let me know how I can look up your pictures stewe

the brightness is off the scale. the picture is not centered it is square with 15% to 20% offset and the rest of keystone i made up with a small slant and warping the screen on the top corners and sides . i also made the crts sit as high as possible so you can see over the projector when sitting 4 ft behind it. the projector sits just 45 inches from screen to get a 80 inch pic, i did have to move the CRTs slightly to get it to converge. but the bottom of the picture is still only 4 inches off floor and i still have a very slight keystone but make it square by letting it overscan about %10 and miss screen. the point by point convergence makes it all possible.have a guy coming over sat with a full video graphics laptop will see how it works with digital keystone through the DVI . have had lots of CRT projectors never had this brite and sharp ,
