Did Vista come installed on your system? When I first installed Vista Home Premium on my computer, I chose the "upgrade" option so perhaps some old XP settings/files helped me start up Musicmatch. After using Vista for awhile, I decided I didn't like the state of some of the video card/tv tuner/sound card drivers so I have switched to a dual boot system for the time being. All of this to say that this time I clean installed Vista and Musicmatch didn't start when I tried what I did before. Of course, since I can now boot into XP again I could still run Musicmatch, but I wanted to have the program in Vista also since I'll be using it most of the time.
I did a little experimenting and managed to get Musicmatch running under Vista again...here's what I did, hope these steps will work if my last method didn't!
-Go to the directory where you have Musicmatch installed (Typically C:\Program Files\Musicmatch, where C: is your hard drive)
-Go to the "Musicmatch Jukebox" Folder
-Using the same technique I described in my previous post, adjust the compatability attributes for the following files:
mim.exe
mm_CrashDlg.exe
mm_server.exe
mm_tray.exe
MMDiag.exe
MMFWLaunch.exe
mmjb.exe
MMJBBurn.exe
mmjblaunch.exe
TI.exe
I changed all mine to run under Windows 2000 compatability, but Win XP or another OS may work on your system if 2000 doesn't.
Napster works fine with Vista 32 or 64 bit. Monthly fee of $9.00 but it does all that MMJB did and then some. Easy interface to use, and you can download songs to your Napster Library just like you did with MMJB. It has loads of radio stations, premade and you can make your own... it also works (in XP only as far as I can tell) as an add on in WMP 10, 11.
Anyone ever use Replay?
I also had a lifetime upgrade for Musicmatch and hope they continue supporting it under Vista. I feel like I shouldn't have to purchase the new Yahoo version and then ask for a refund, that is ridiculous.
I really like some of the features of Rhapsody and recommend it for the huge library of music that you can stream. The audio quality is great.
iTunes runs pretty slow in Vista, although you would expect them to update the program soon to fix this (I hope!). Ripping in iTunes is good, and they use the Gracenote song database, which Musicmatch used to use but stopped (and the song/album data got a LOT worse afterwards IMHO).
it doesn't have mp3pro, multi-tagging, or multi-rename. I could probably go on.
Napster cannot do Super Tagging.
Thanks pensfan, worked for me too although I still think Vista sucks.

Not to be a buzzkill, but I just wanted to point something out. Lifetime gaurantees don't mean your lifetime but the lifetime of the product in question. It seems to me from a legal stand point that Yahoo isn't legally obligated to honor this contract, shows alot on their part that they would honor the agreement. These contracts can be voided for the following reasons: product discontinuation, providing company ceasing operations, change of ownership(tricky legal issues here), or the lifetime of the product(s) is listed at time of purchase. I don't know much about Yahoo but it sounds to me (forgive if I a wrong), that Yahoo bought out MusicMatch which likely voided your contract. I great that they are gracious enough to allow you to move to Yahoo.
I have been using Vista's Media Player which is very much like I-Tunes, which works just fine for me. Some people have listed features from Music Match that Window Media Played doesn't have, I suggest checking out the vast array of offered plug ins for WMP you'll likely find what you're looking for.
Hi,
I found out earlier that MM Bulid No. 10.00.4033 works on my x64 Edition of XP. It works with compatibility settings on Vista, too.
Only problem on vista x64 - the volume can't be changed via MM itself. I've to use my keyboard or the volume mixer in windows... ![]()
Latest build was No. 10.00.4040 I think. This caused c++ lib errors in the MMburner on XP x64...
Is 4040 working without this volume bug and without any problems burning CDs on vista x64?
Thx,
Daniel
P.S.
Sorry for poor english.
I purchased the "All future versions" of MusicMatch Jukebox many years ago. I have enjoyed using MusicMatch over the years. And now every time that I start it up I get a message that support for MusicMatch has ended and that I >>MUST<< upgrade to Yahoo Music. I did try the Yahoo Music upgrade once. Lets just say that it was an unpleasant experience. Then I tried to un-install it. Couldn't. I contacted Yahoo Music tech support and was basically told "golly, that really sucks". One complete PC wipe later I re-installed MusicMatch 10 and have continued to use it. I have considered going back to version 7, since I am not anoyed by the Yahoo messages when it starts up. And there are some features that I like about it. Should I post the installation program somewhere?
I tried to use the Super Tag / CDDB lookup feature in my copy of MM (V10 licensed, Plus..) yesterday and get an error message that I do not appear to be connected to the internet. Which of course I am.
So one more example of the disintegration of a great product. I echo many of you that Yahoo is NOT a comparable replacement.
I got the same message from my musicmatch. is there any option??
What I'm doing now is not as seamless as MM, but I bought a copy of FixTunes and found that (I hope I got this right) MM didn't conform strictly to the ID3v2 conventions. It adds some things (Mood, etc.) that show up as comments, but are not recognized by many other players, if any.
So I fixed the tags, and then decided on Media Monkey as a good player. It recognizes my old Dell DJ30 and while I miss Super Tagging, and the Auto DJ, I think this will work for me.
Auto DJ was so useful to me because I could pick one or two artists and the feature would suggest a playlist of comparable/similar artists as well as those I specifically picked. I used that a lot!
Fixtunes actually turned out to be a disaster. In half the mp3's it added two or three copies of the artists name in the track tag (The Beatles/The Beatles/The Beatles), so since most players sort on the tag fields, now my library has multiple entries for each artist and the only way I've found to fix it is to change them manually. I have over 5000 files. Stay away from Fixtunes.
They offered to refund my payment, but what's that compared to all the time it's going to take to edit all those files?
Both Media Monkey and AOL's WinAMP will auto-tag, but they only come up with a single suggestion for songs that an artist has recorded more than once, it's also painstaking.
I haven't uninstalled MM 10 yet and still prefer it to anything else. Those jerks at Yahoo really killed a good thing.
Fixtunes and Media Monkey both blow. Hard.
If all you need is to play the music you have on your hard drive then save the aggravation and use Windows Media Player for idiots.
for those of you looking for a replacement player to MusicMatch or Yahoo Music Player only (eg not a music subscription) check out Media Monkey
http://deancollinsblog.blogspot.com/2008/07/mediamonkey-rocks.html
for the longest time I've been looking for a replacement for MusicMatch (lol and no YahooMusic's sucky replacement wasn't a suitable option).
though ominously I paid for another lifetime subscription....hopefully the Media Monkey developers aren't looking to sell out the way the MusicMatch developers shortchanged their user base.
Cheers,
Dean
