Problems playing itunes videos on vista

by shiresberry - 3/15/07 4:16 PM

Hello,
Obviously, I see that there are compatibility issues with itunes (and quicktime) and vista. I don't have any problems playing itunes purchased music, or anything of that sort, but one problem that I do have is playing itunes video. The audio works just fine, but the video barely works. The video struggles to play and most of the time, itunes shuts down. Any reasons for this? Any solutions? I'm about ready to throw my new laptop out the window!!!
Thanks
ZK

Playing itunes video in Vista

by austinivey - 3/19/07 4:24 AM In reply to: Problems playing itunes videos on vista by shiresberry

I'm having the same issue. I've downloaded the very latest version of itunes (7.1.1) and the video is very choppy...almost like I have a very old computer. But, in fact, my computer is brand new with 2gb of RAM and a dual core processor...there should be no issues playing this video.

I also tried opening it in a standalone version of Quicktime but I'm getting the same issue.

Apple...please fix itunes!!

Welcome!

I welcome you all to the great iTunes/Vista Video Problem. I have posted in other forums about this . There are A LOT of people with this issue. I even sent my Dell system specks to Apple. Not much you can do except wait for Apple to get off it's behind and figure out the problem.

-Nothing like having 80 gig video ipod that I can't sync diggnation to. I am missing a lot of podcast becuase I simply don't have the time to sit behind my computer and view them.

Everyone need to just keep calling apple until they get so sick of the calls that they fix it. Make your calls constructive and don't yell at them. Just let them know that you are getting to the end of your rope and that you are getting ready to trade your iPod in on a Zune and that it would be worth loosing the restocking fee to do it.
(Even though noone really would ever want a Zune - At least not me)

Me 2 with the I-tunes

Podcasts and music no prob, but forget video, TV etc. Itunes, quicktime just flat don't work and have crashed my machine several times. Usually happens when I try to do anything else while Itunes is running. Dual proc. 6700 and 4GB RAM so not the problem.

External HD fix, but still mysterious

by krolsen - 3/26/07 11:18 AM In reply to: Problems playing itunes videos on vista by shiresberry

I have had the same problem, and found that if I play video (video podcasts, movies purchased from itunes) from the external HD that they played just fine, while when the are on the Operating system HD that they are still choppy. Doesn't seem to make a lot of sense, and I hope that Itunes gets on this soon.

Jumping on the bandwagon

Same problem here running with 2gb ram- Thanks for the tip Krolsen, I moved the video file to my external HD and now it plays just fine, which is strange.

I Tunes not working with movies now after the latest update

by jancongrave - 3/29/07 6:16 PM In reply to: Jumping on the bandwagon by sugaddikt

Hi everyone
I'm having the same problem and I have a brand new HP Touchsmart PC. I downloaded ITunes 7 and it worked properly and I thought great. Now I just downloaded the latest version and I can no longer play the video or movies. I did what was suggested and moved the files to another hard drive and yes, they do play but its a nuisance to keep transferring files all over the place. I am wondering whether the Quick Time is the thing that is causing the problem now that Apple have updated I Tunes for the Apple TV. I am not interested in reading all the bickering between people on the forum, some blaming Apple and some blaming Microsoft. Please someone at Apple help the ordinary person in the street who wants to purchase from I Tunes and could do so until the latest version was downloaded. Why can you not revert back to the previous version if you want to?

iTunes/QuickTime Video Problems

by zoszos68 - 3/30/07 9:28 PM In reply to: External HD fix, but still mysterious by krolsen

Thanks for posting that I'm glad i found this post.
My m4v videos would freeze in itunes/quicktime but i usually got a bsod with a serious error report upon reboot.

I just before found a quicktime alternative programme and found they worked ok(non copy protected only), so I knew the files where ok.

So now to ponder why they work from an external hdd and hopefuly Apple has a fix soon for Vista.

Same problem, took forever to find fix!

by Martha Z - 4/2/07 8:17 PM In reply to: iTunes/QuickTime Video Problems by zoszos68

So thanks to this thread, I can watch iTunes video again on my PC. What I'm wondering is how many of you in this forum are running Vista Ultimate and indulging in the Dreamscene preview? I'm not sure if the two are connected, but iTunes ran just fine before I installed Dreamscene, 3 weeks after installing Vista Ultimate. (Could have been that I updated iTunes at the same time and didn't realize it.)

Anyway, thanks for everyones research, I would have never dug into my Desperate Housewives back episodes to make the connection between internal and external drive differences.

Vista/Apple... Get with it. What a pain!!!

Same problem

by bman222112 - 4/2/07 8:45 PM In reply to: Same problem, took forever to find fix! by Martha Z

I have noticed the same problem in Itunes 7.1.1. I finally got the Almighty zune, and i can watch the videos fine on it. try downloading the zune software to see if it works. Never leave it to apple to accomplish anything worth accomplishing.

http://www.zune.net/en-us/meetzune/software/redirect.aspx

that is the link to the software download

P.S. THe zune has WAY more features than my Ipod Video, It was completely worth selling.

Thanks but...

The problem wasn't with the iPod itself... It was with the media being played through iTunes or Quicktime. I can transfer and watch my programs on my iPod no sweat, but sometimes I want to kick back and watch them on my computer monitor. I have literally had to move ALL of my video files from my internal HD (320 GB's) to my external. Not cool because the response time is delayed. The technology is there, why isn't it complying?!?!?

Vista/Itunes

by fuyuko - 4/3/07 10:22 AM In reply to: Thanks but... by Martha Z

Wow, I thought it was just me. But it *IS* choppy. I noticed when I first got my new notebook all the voices were out of synch. Now occasionaly the screen will stop playing/ficker. Its very annoying. My old machine with 256 mb of ram ran itunes with no problems. What gives?

Doesn't HAVE to be external!

by Adamant22 - 4/12/07 3:08 PM In reply to: iTunes/QuickTime Video Problems by zoszos68

I found that ANY other drive (not the primary/ OS) will work!

I have a secondary internal drive, I copied the file there and everything's fine!

Does for me.

by roscoep75 - 4/16/07 6:31 PM In reply to: Doesn't HAVE to be external! by Adamant22

I have kept ALL of my media files on a separate internal HD for a year now. Neither drive will let me play Itunes movies/music videos, without the choppiness and/or freeze ups. External firewire drive runs them fine. AMD 3800+ processor w/ 2GB Ram.
