I installed windows xp about a month ago
my computer was fast but now it has on and off computer freezes
it also randomaly reboots
i turned off the system reboot for errors in the system settings
now i get the dreaded blue screen with a different error everytime so i stopped writing the errors after 5 lol
I dont know if its the hard drive thats bad, if its getting too hot, or the cables are crappy
my specs are:
Pentium D 3.4 Ghz (not over heating becaue i got monitoring tools on computer)
1gb of Ram (Checked Ram with Memtools no errors)
Maxtor SATA 3 HD Model 6V160E0
Nvidia 7600 GS
Intel D945PVS MOBO
My dads computer seems to be faster on an IDE drive and a 3 ghz Pentium 4
Even when i do a fresh install of windows xp
drive? If the mobo only supports 1.5Gb/s it is possible that the drive needs to have a jumper for it to run as 1.5 Gb/s. I know that both WD and Seagate drives do have jumpers for this purpose, and if not used the drives perform erratic reads and writes.
I am not a Maxtor fan in the least.
Yeah the mobo supports SATA 3Gb/s
it seemed like it worked better when i switched the sata settings to IDE
ill check out if the jumpers settings on the maxtor website if they have it
i bought an OEM drive from Tiger Direct
maybe thats the problem lol
i think ill buy a new one or a different brand
and use the old one in an external case
probbally western diggital
i have an 80gb WD thats 7 years old and works well
