I know it seems kind of wrong to raise sheep just for their organs. Cows are raised solely for the purpose of us eating them and wearing their skin. Many pigs are raised for the same reason. We also eat chickens and sometimes eat their unborn young scrambled with cheese.
We get body parts and or products from pigs (insulin and the protein remover for my contact lenses). I'm sure we probably get stuff from other animals as well...I the real problem I have is the human gene part of it, and possibly having the meat from these animals available for consumption, and when I heard the story on the podcast, I couldn't help but remember the Greek god "Pan".
At least I think if I needed a liver or something I'd take one from a sheep if it worked just as well as a human's.
so I donated 2/3 of my liver to my mother 3 years ago. She's doing fine but would have been dead long ago had these surgeries not been aviable. Had I not been a match and/or been willing and able to gift live, Mom would be dead as well. Our society raises and kills millions of animals for food. If just saving lives is our goal, then I say sheeps are fair 'game'.
I live in Reno, and this development on sheep came from the University of Nevada, Reno! Good to know that we've done something useful, I guess... Not quite Stanford, but oh well.
