core2duo 1.86ghz
intel 946 motherboard
1GB DDR2 RAM
WHICH ONE BETTER ..NEED HELP...AND IN THE CNET REVIEW IT SAYS"This card's graphics processor and memory mean that it will run most current 3D games at acceptable resolution and image quality settings, although you may have to make compromises on more demanding titles."WHAT DOES THIS MEAN

Often times slightly lower models give a significantly better bang for the buck, with performance only a few points behind the more expensive models, and a price tag that's significantly less.
One thing to chew on a little though, is console gaming. The graphics of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 rival that of computer games, and you'll likely save quite a bit of money in the long run. The console specs are fixed, and will remain so until around 2015, so all games will be written to those specs. Buy a console, and you're guaranteed that every game you buy for it will work. When you consider the cost of the graphics cards and other hardware you wouldn't need to buy for your computer, if not to feed the gaming habit, even the outlandishly priced PlayStation 3 comes out to be quite the bargain.

by jackson dougless - 3/29/07 9:55 AM In reply to: i've been to toms hardware by adnan17The thing I don't like about ATI cards, on Windows at least, is that the drivers require the .NET Framework from what I understand. Other than that, there's probably little difference between ATI and nVidia cards. It's mostly a matter of which features different card makers include. Some have TV tuners, others have TV-Out, etc.
And looking at your other post... If your problem is with lag, that's a network performance issue. You could have the best video card in the world, it won't do squat for lag if you're stuck behind a 14.4 modem link. Maybe what you want, is to get a better Internet connection rather than video card.

The specs were 2.8ghz, 1024mb ram, 120gbhd, 7600GS AGP. It really surprised me how good the machine ran. I've been able to play Quake 4 in full graphics, Splinter Cell Double Agent in full HDR (although there would be a lag at a big explosion and sometimes if there were alot of people around me.) So I got a pretty good bang for the buck if you consider I only payed for the graphics card. The system really did surprise me.
And since you have a dual core system, and PCI express, I think you'll have a pretty decent gaming computer on your hands. So in my opinion, I'd go for the 7600GT right away. Not only are they easy to overclock as already mentioned, but they tend to run cool.
I've preferred Nvidia over any other graphics cards, but that's my choice =)

by ramarc - 3/28/07 1:42 PM In reply to: Which one is better 7600GT ,7300GT,6800GS OR 7300GS .. by adnan17bigger is better in the same series and GTs are better than GSs. the oddball is the 6800GS which is an older GPU. it's going to be between the 7600GT and 7600GS. so the pecking order is:
7600GT, 6800GS, 7600GS, 7300GT
most all nvidia cards are easily overclocked and many are shipped with factory overclocks. so, an OC'd 7600GS could reach 7600GT performance levels. unless you're getting a really good deal on it, you should stick with either 7600.
How bout the ATI CARDS

7900gs & x1950gt - lowest card that will play GRAW nicely on medium settings
x1900gt
7600gt
x1650xt - lowest card that will play GRAW acceptably on medium
7600gs & x1650pro - GRAW will run but you'll have to use low settings
7300gt and x1500 - you'll need to OC
7300gs/le and x1300pro - forget about it

i prefer evga and xfx for price/performance/support
