360 ---> PC Networking Help. Read On Cnet 3/22/07

by Spartan416 - 3/23/07 1:01 PM

Okay so... been trying to network my 360 to my PC, made some progress, got WMP11 to see the 360, allowed it to share media. Then for some reason my 360 could finally see my PC. When I tried to connect however it wasn't able to establish a connection, it said it might be because of a firewall, which isn't the case since both of mine were turned off at the time. Also I've tried the Zune software and it was worse, Zune couldn't even see the 360 so I uninstalled, k, thx.

I've tried pretty much every piece of advice in this topic on the Xbox forums:

And still nothing. Surely BuzzTown knows how to help me out?

From what I've seen...

This is all beta code and not ready for primetime. I see responses at your link such as Microsoft is aware of this issue as well as too many posts in CNet forums about WMP 11 woes.

I'll be blunt.

It's dead Jim.

Windows media connect

Search the Microsoft page for the Windows Media Connect software. I've never used anything else and it has worked great for me streaming audio and video to my 360 from my XP machine.

Windows Media Connect

by Spartan416 - 3/23/07 4:17 PM In reply to: Windows media connect by gogomama

I've looked for it on Microsoft's site but it isn't there for download, probably cause its built into WMP11. I've heard some people say that when they downgraded to WMP10 that it worked for them, how would I go about downgrading to WMP10?

Use TVersity instead

I would recommend using TVersity Media Server instead of Windows Media Connect w/ WMP10 or WMP11. It can be found at http://tversity.com. It will also allow you to stream videos from your XP PC (doesn't even need to be XP Media Center) in almost all formats to your Xbox 360 by automatically trancoding it on the fly. It also will stream RSS audio/video podcasts to your 360. It works great.

I'm currently using TVersity right now, but how I do I make it transcode a file to a file the 360 plays?

TVersity HowTo

You'll want to look at this: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=564772 It's specifically about streaming divx but if you have the correct codecs already installed on your PC TVersity should automatically transcode to wmv and stream it to the 360.

how i did it...

by robstak - 4/12/07 9:23 AM In reply to: TVersity by Spartan416

the site i read told me to uninstall wmp11 completely (from add remove and from windows components) and reinstall it, then also uninstall ALL of your codecs and download the mega codec pack from free-codecs.com. when you install the codecs UNCHECK ALL THE DIVX ones bc its covered by ffshow or something like that. then you are good.

Runs like a charm on my p3-900/80211B! no skips or anything
