Slide show package

by pass_colin - 3/24/07 12:25 AM In reply to: Photostory 3 by Mavoz

Hi,
Chuck, your trip of a lifetime is a reality for me as I live in Australia and travel around Oz and NZ.

I have recently put together a slide show of photos of Australia, NZ, Hong Kong, Singapore and UK.

I've trialled several slide show software packages including Photoshop, Power Point and Photodex and whilst they all have their respective good points, the best one I have found is called
" Memories on TV" by CodeJam. (I think they are based in Singapore). If you Google either name you will be able to access a trial period of the "domestic" version or the "professional" version.

The Pro version gives you, amongst other things, the facility to insert a slide show within a slide show. I did a separate sequence of our granddaughter which I then incorporated into the main holiday show. ( This can be made up of either stills or movie ).

You can also get " Memories on the Web" which enables you to share with friends. I know the titles are a bit twee, but if you look beyond that, the package is really good.

It's really easy to use and gives you loads of different transitions, some of which I haven't seen in the other packages I've tried. Plus you get pan / zoom / rotate options ( The Ken Burns effect ).

You can drag in backgrounds to add extra dimensions to the pictures and these can be either photos or wallpaper type backdrops.

You can add music ( WAV format) and text. The effect of the text can be varied so it's not just fade in and out. It scrolls, shadows, types, stretches, bursts etc. and you can vary the style, colour and font size so you have quite a bit of variety.

Music tracks can be automatically adjusted to fit a slide sequence but there is a facility for manually trimming the music tracks to exactly fit the timing of the slides. This gives you the option of seamlessly stitching together two tracks of the same tune to make one longer one; very useful if the original track doesn't cover all the slides in a particular sequence. The one thing I would like is the option of imposing sound effects over the music. ( It might do this but I haven't found out how to yet).

I've enjoyed using this package a lot. Hope this is helpful.

Cheers

Colin

Which Nero?

by loriwest - 3/24/07 3:37 AM In reply to: Need advice to make a quality slide show of my trip by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

My wife had me buy Nero Photoshow Elite a few years back and I ended up being the one who loved it. If this is the program you own already Id use it, if not buy it. At less then $50 it can be easy the best value out here for all levels of experiance. Without getting to carried away here I'll hope you have this version (I'M using version 1)but the funtion buttons will be similare no matter which program you end up using. Now when you use Nero PhotoShow Elite it will attempt(with your permission) scan your pc and all drives on it for items to manage. If you've the time go for it, it can save alot of time later when hunting for photos you know you have somewhere on your drives. When you click on "Make" from the begining of the Nero program you should find any albums you've let it search out are now on a list. If you don't see the photos within the albums on the list, just click the import photos button on the bottom of the list for more options for getting photos into the program. After you have selected the photos for your project, in the case, you should choose "Musical Slideshow", click make at the bottom and off we go. Now come the fun stuff. First, name your slideshow, click continue and it builds the show. You can now edit the slideshow in many ways including different effects for transitions between photos on the slideshow but also include your own music file as a background and different styles which come with the program like a templete. The style button basicall gives you a frame and music relative to the style choosen. On the bottom, the options button allows for show credits, frames, title changes and speed of effects. It can even be looped automatically. The "Edit Show" button gives you even more things to choose, add and edit within the shjow clip art and captions, transitions and effects as well as speed and music soundtrack also. Even change the order of the slides now if you wish. When you have all the music, options, transitions and all the other fine features the Nero PhotoShow Elite gives you fine tuned to your liking (click watch once in awhile to see how your changes look) you now click the Share button for lots of different ways to share your new creation with others. Make a stand alone executable that needs no help or software to watch on a computer, make a cd in two ways including one that plays from standard modern DVD players, produce a screen saver out of it or share on "Photoshow.net" by uploading and (the one I love) share your slideshows on your own website by uploading or hosting yourself. This simply makes a html page for you with all needed ShockWave objects and allows for compression on photos by shrinking them for you while outputting the html pages and assets to a folder of your choice. Simply upload or share them from that folder. Or like me, just take the flash object and insert the object into your own page anywhere you want it. And any size as well by selecting the quality before continuing.
I hope this helps and that the program you mentioned having is infact Nero PhotoShow Elite, otherwise I've wasted your time. I've personally used many different kinds of photo show makers and this one takes a good pc to run, but worth every penny it costs and its very easy to use.
www.artsoftheearth.com
go here to see examples of Nero's capabilities. On the left nav bar near the bottom are the photos in a few different programs formats and different programs I've used for this same thing as you are triing to do.
Good luck and happy, safe surfing to ya,
Warmly, MarkO

Adobe Album Starter 3 or Microsoft Photo Story 3 are free

by ScottDamery - 3/24/07 5:35 AM In reply to: Need advice to make a quality slide show of my trip by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

These both do a great job of helping you create a great looking slide show that you can share and they are both free downloads. If you are looking for more than that then stick with the photo champs of Adobe and get photo shop elements 5.0

Try digital photo slideshow

by bmyckowiak - 3/24/07 6:22 AM In reply to: Need advice to make a quality slide show of my trip by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Here is a very easy to use piece of software. You can add music, transitions, etc. It contains many extra features and only costs $20, but the author lets you try it first for free.

Check it out at

http://www.digitalphotoslideshow.com

You just give it the directory where the photos are and have the music files in the same place. You can then let the software make it into a self-extracting exe. So, then you can copy it to someone else's computer for showing! I'd recommend this software to everyone. It also has features for using your photos as changing wallpaper and many other options.

Maybe someone else has mentioned this software. I didn't have time to read all of the posts.

Enjoy!

Vegas Video

by crwilson6 - 3/24/07 8:46 AM In reply to: Need advice to make a quality slide show of my trip by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Sony Vegas Video makes truly awesome video DVDs,and has great tutorials available. These are not just slide shows, they are actual videos with true movie enhancements. You can zoom in or out, change the tone, color, balance, brightness, add transition effects, subtitles, text etc. I've used it for 10+ years to make all kinds of videos for our family and friends. Also I sometimes use Corel PhotoPaint XI or Corel Paint Shop to clean up pictures before adding them to Vegas.

Hey EASY on the Heavy stuff!

Have you gone completely mad? - Since when did anyone say he wants to put on such a good show it's good enought to broadcast it

Some of you punters are just so "up in the clouds"

I have used as many other software packages than hot dinners that some of you guys can count, including

shall we start at the top?
Avid (any one - including the ones you guys are more likely to have come across i.e. DVXpress... yes and the Online versions too)
Fast (purple, etc.etc.. oh including 601 - there are only a few thousand of us who knows that one!)
Premier (Pro 2.0 ok?, Pro 1.5? 6.5, oh the list is just too long)
And why dont we just tell the guy to go out and buy himself a
DVCPro as well - oh how about a framestore too?!

So when you have learnt to "ASK a RELEVANT QUESTION" of the original enquirer - you'll find that he may not be interested in spending lots of dosh
And when it comes to lots of dosh... that's also a relative point... has anyone got any idea where is the limit...

I have used many Broadcast systems like Quantel's
Paintbox, Harriet, Harry, Flame... anyone of you guys got any inkling what I am on about....

so stay with the plot OK?

ASk QUESTIONS..... before you start to show off.... £50 may be a lot of money to some people... whilst £400 may not be so much to you?

er by the way, Avid systems used to cost something like £5K - though they may be quite cheap now...
Quantel Harry - (costs more than you joy average's home !) dont even go down that road ...

Be nice to the original requestor

- ASK him some nice simple questions before any of you punters shoot off again about
MACS (zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz )
or £300 worth of software....

PC or Mac you have?

by The Bob - 3/24/07 9:18 AM In reply to: Need advice to make a quality slide show of my trip by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

If you have a PC go for Power Point if you have it and if not go for OpenOffice.org it's free for Mac or PC. If you have a Mac you're lucky because every thing you need is there. Have a nice trip! :)

???

If you have XP why would use PowerPoint? Why not use the bundled Windows Movie Maker? It's free and a lot more flexible for making movies and slideshows than Powerpoint.

If you have XP you're lucky because everything you need is there! Have a nice trip.

Nero will definately work!!! (and it will work nicely, too!)

by stephen451 - 3/24/07 10:30 AM In reply to: Need advice to make a quality slide show of my trip by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Your Nero software will work for your purposes. I use Nero for my slideshows and it works nicely. It does a nice job of storing your photos, and it also has nice transitions. Also, if you are an early adapter of Vista or if you have Windows XP, you can use Windows Movie maker.

I strongly recommend Nero for two reasons. First, it is easy to learn and to use. Second, unless you are recreating "Gone With The Wind" it has every basic effect you will need for a good looking home or small office presentation.

Just use Windows Movie Maker

by frankwick - 3/24/07 11:05 AM In reply to: Need advice to make a quality slide show of my trip by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Windows Movie Maker has been included with Windows since 2001. Yes, 2001. It has been updated a couple of times since then, so visit WindowsUpdate to make sure youhave the most recent version.

It is incredibly simple to use. Like other free programs it is very easy to use, but doesn't include a lot of advanced features. You can incorporate your photos, video clips, audio files, over dubs with a mic, etc... It has tons of transitions (although I prefer simple fades) and you can include animated captions for a more polished look.

You can save as a video file (AVI, WMV, etc..) burn to disc, email, etc.. IT'S FREE and already part of XP.

I have to agree with this post re:Windows Movie Maker

by gyroya - 3/24/07 11:05 PM In reply to: Just use Windows Movie Maker by frankwick

After spending countless hours trying to make Roxio Easy Media Creator 8's "Videowave program" work and ready to throw it away, I ended up pulling a great slide show together with Movie Maker (already on my computer for free because of Windows XP); which worked out very well and it was easy to do. I used the audio layering feature of Roxio's sound editor (narration plus background music happening at the same time)-saving each as a .wav file. I imported these and all the .jpg files into Movie Maker's "collections page". After placing them onto the timeline production, I added transitions, added text pages with effects and finished it up by burning it to CD with Sonic MYDVD.
