Connecting to a Windows Wireless Network using a MacBook

My parents are going to give me a 2GHz MacBook for my birthday, but I'm having second thoughts because I don't know how to connect to our wireless network. My current computer has a LinkSys wireless adapter, and I connect to a LinkSys model #WMP54G. We are on PLDT myDSL(Philippines) and the main computer is running Windows XP Professional.
Do I need to buy extra hardware to connect to the wireless network? Should I buy an AirPort Extreme card or anything? I'd really appreciate help!

Yes, Macs connect to wifi networks.

You'll see them at hotspots using the same wifi servers (access points) PC owners use. I wonder why this question comes up?

Let me state this as simply as I can. WIFI is a standard called 802.11x You see a, b, g and n. Most of us will want 802.11g. So if I have an 802.11g router, my mac, pc, linux and other 802.11g things can use that.
