If you follow ipcrandy's instructions, you should be good to go. It is very well written.
I've been using linux and ubuntu for a few years now and want to let you know that you shouldn't get intimidated by it. It really is easier than it might look at first.
Just a couple things. When you download the iso file, you can check it to make sure that it is a complete and accurate file by using the "md5 checksum." To make it simple, there is a numerical value for the original file and you can check to see if the file you downloaded to your computer is the same. Prevents alot of hassle since an inaccurate copy will not load.
Also, make sure you burn the CD at the lowest possible setting. Very important!
You'll be able to find the partitioner when you start the install process. You boot to the live CD until it brings you to the desktop and you'll see a instll icon. When you go through that process, it will bring you to the partitioner. Make sure you read it carefully.
Finally, if you are still having problems with the iso, you can go to the ubuntu site and order free CDs including no shipping costs. Will take a few weeks, though.
