Nero is a great program, with many features. I use it all the time, but not for still images. I would advise you to study the Nero documentation thoroughly, and even try some of the usees you want to preform. In other words become fermilure with it. If it does what you want it to do, great. If not then you should review the suggestions you get in this forum, and buy the package that seem best for what you want.
The important thing is to do your homework. That's the only way you can be sure you will get the package that best sues your needs.
One last thing, just to be sure, burn your project twice on two removable media. That way if something go's horribly wrong, you have a backup. Good Luck.

The Masked Villain
I frequently use PowerPoint to compile pictures for a variety of reasons; anniversary and birthday parties, reunions, my own personal reminiscence... It's easy to use, I can add the music of my choice as long as it is in .wav format, PP offers some fun sound effects (aaplause, breaking glass...), I can add multiple pics to one slide along with whatever commentary is appropriate. For family and friends without PP, I can include a link to MS PowerPoint viewer, ensuring that everyone I send it to can see it. For me, PowerPoint is an excellent venue for pictures of all kinds. Everything you mentioned in your question can be done with PowerPoint, and fairly easily.

MemoriesOnTV does everything you want. It allows you to pan and zoom over slides, has lots of nice transitions between slides, imports movies from your camera, and so on. The result is a DVD including a menu, music, ... AND it is easy to learn!
Hi, I came across a discussion on Memories on TV photo slide ware software and I hope that some good member can help.
I have d/l and read the manual a couple of times and hi lighted specific areas.
What I want in the program:
-normalize mp3 volume throughout slide show
-have Text as intro at beginning of show and at end.
-I have my jpegs into batches of approx 50 each and music for each of them....my problem has been that on the Left Pane of the Program which I title (I have not got into Text intro yet as I am focusing on getting a smooth flowing show with individual fades for pics and Audio fade in and out with Songs.
I have posted to their forum and am simply frustrated.
I end up with The Titled album on the Left Pane and 7 sub albums under the Main Titled album and the Show wants to stop and have me click on "Menu".
I only want one "Menu at the beginning" and nothing else. A pic with Text at the Intro and one at the End.
While the Forum for the program does exist i can't seem to resolve why
I cannot have this a smooth flowing show.
I keep getting replies that no one has used sub albums. The reason that I have subalbums is b/c the topics covered are about my young daughters life up until her marriage and I have different songs for each set of pics.
I like the programs description of what it can do, however am frustrated at the type of advice I get and the fact that users at the Forum don't seem to have a lot of experience with its use....and there are few members.
When I first logged on indicating my interest there appeared to be several members, however now when I am in need, I feel deeply frustrated and don't know who to ask.
I see that there are users here and would really appreciate advice. I find it hard in a Forum when you ask and the Reply is that "I have not done that before"? And no one else comments.
This is not a criticism of the Forum, I am simply seeking advice where forums exist to help new users like myself.
I really would appreciate comments from Experienced users here as I don't believe that my questions are that difficult.
I really wish that there was a Tutorial on the Program.
Thank you for your time and I look forward to comments.

nero is the best, make a dvd slide show of your photo's, they will play on most dvd players its pretty easy to learn, ok by, from harold
Hi Chuck, I have been using Proshow Gold 3 from Photodex.com for this very purpose. Was using version 2.5 before that.I can thoroughly recomend it as it will do everything you want to do with your digital photos. It is easy to use and the end results are great. Good luck.
Chuck,
If you want my advice take a trip to your local Applestore and see how a Mac wil change your life. Manage your photos, produce top quality movies and slidehows... Apple make it it's childs play. If you don't want to make the switch to a Mac you could simply produce a slideshow in Powerpoint; that way you can share it with other PC users.
PowerPoint will do it no problem.. simply import the picture onto a blank slide, creating one for each photo you have. Run the slide show and it will appear in full screen... You can also export from Powerpoint once this is done as a movie.
Hope this is of help.
To answer your question - Yes, you can use powerpoint to do everything you asked about. While many people may point you to other programs, which will probably work as well as they say, your question was if you could do it and yes you can.
One side note, you need to add in where you plan on presenting this slideshow. If you want to display it on the internet, you could run into some problems. If you'd like something to display on the net, how easy does it have to be? There are ton of options out there, and which option is best will depend on where you want to display it.
Depending on what operating system you are using, there are several software i heard people have used with great success....
I went on vacation for 3 weeks and I had 2 (4) gigs of photos....
iLife ’06 is the easiest way to make the most out of every bit of your digital life. Use your Mac to collect, organize and edit the various elements. Transform them into mouth-watering masterpieces with Apple-designed templates. Then share the magic moments in beautiful books, colorful calendars, dazzling DVDs, perfect podcasts, and attractive online journals. All starring you.
This is only for Apple users. I am quite sure Vista now offer something similar to this. Vista copied most of the Apple features so there should be a software similar to iLife for XP/PC users.
One solution to your dilemma is PhotoDex (www.photodex.com/). The software ranges from basic/elementary to full-fledge professional slideshow production quality; an online sharing service for completed slideshows is available (and you have integrated options for web-sharing plus CD and DVD authoring. What makes it a winner for me is the ease with which you can assemble your pieces (music bed, photos, captions, etc.). To add movement to your high resolution photos, you can have documentary pan-and-scan that is among the easiest to use out-of-the-box. You have built-in basic editing tools so that most photo adjustments can be made during the editing your masterpiece.
PowerPoint can be usable but is hardly my first choice unless I didn't have anything else. Various programs, some at nominal prices, excel at this task. The PhotoDex line is one that our family, even those who are relative novices, enjoy using for documenting our events and travels.
Powerpoint can make a slide show but what you seem to want will require a video editing program such as Adobe Premier Elements, Ulead Video Studio, Pinnacle Studio or a variety of others. Nero has a DVD authoring section which may be able to handle what you want, but it will be more limited than the dedicated video editors. Do a search for video editors and you will turn up quite a few choices, many of which have downloadable demos.
All of these will allow you to create a slide show on DVD that will play on almost any DVD player and will allow you a wide choice of transitions and effects and will allow you to add music and narration. The more expensive ones mostly give you more effects and transitions. Look at the demos and decide what you need. Home versions of video editors run from around $40 to around $140. Professional video editors are a lot more (Adobe Premier, full version is around $800), but I doubt you'll need that kind of capability.
One thing to remember is that video editing requires a lot of computer power, so check the minimum requirements of any software you consider and I'd recommend at least double the minimum RAM. I'm running Premier Elements on a 2.8GHz Pentium 4 with 1000Megs of RAM and onscreen video playback is jerky at times. This does not affect the finished video but it can make the editing process more difficult. Rendering (converting the video project to a DVD) for a 30 minute video can take several hours. I sometimes let them run overnight.
The latest versions of these programs can edit and render high definition video, but remember that regular DVD players can't play this.
ACDSee 9 makes creating a slide show very easy!
With ACDSee 9, you can create slide shows and screen savers of your favorite photos, and share them with friends and family, or display them on your Web site. You can even save your slide show or screen saver project to edit at a later time. The Create Slide Show Wizard guides you through the process. You can set it to your own music & there are a variety of transitions available! (These include transitions between photos, the duration of the transition and slide, text captions, and audio files to play when the image is displayed.)
And ACDSee Photo Manager 9 is also an excellent choice for organizing your photos. It also has a built in photo editor that makes cropping, fixing red eye, adjusting exposure, & a variety of other photo enhancements straightforward & easy to do. I highly recommend it for your project!
