I plan to buy a Dell D620, but it has one major flaw.

by Cyborganizer - 3/16/07 7:18 PM In reply to: Dell by fuzz1979

I do not like the matte screen. I prefer the better picture quality of glossy screens. If I have to type on it for the next five hours, a dim screen get annoying.

Dell Support Rocks

by toc246 - 3/17/07 10:18 AM In reply to: Sony, Toshiba or Dell? by johnnyq0311

Can't comment on Sony or Toshiba. Never had either. But I do have two Dell laptops. Dell support, in both sales and service, is EXCELLENT!

Anything but Toshiba

by smknott - 3/17/07 11:10 AM In reply to: Sony, Toshiba or Dell? by johnnyq0311

I'm writing this post from my A-75 Toshiba. This is the fourth lpatop Toshiba has sent me in a year. They have replace atleast 2 motherboards in each machine, 3 screens each, and 2 hard drives. They still say that they don't know of any issue that caused my problems but I am aware that there's a class action law suit against them for service related issues. I will NEVER buy another Toshiba product!!!.

Sony, Toshiba or Dell

by wyvern7 - 3/17/07 9:13 PM In reply to: Sony, Toshiba or Dell? by johnnyq0311

I'm not quite ready for a new laptop, but from the total failure of Dell to provide a working laptop and further failure to provide tech support, I will NEVER buy another of their laptops again.

I have heard that Toshiba puts out a reliable laptop. I'm mostly looking for a workhorse, as I don't have any time for gaming.

Why not consider a Micron?

by Lisaizme2 - 3/17/07 9:30 PM In reply to: Sony, Toshiba or Dell by wyvern7

Do yourself a favor and take a look at Micron laptops. You might pay a bit more upfront.. but their technical support is beyond compare and is located in the United States.. not outsourced.

I've done technical support at a community college and we had the most trouble with the faculties Toshiba laptops, 2nd most troublesome was the Dells and last place was HP. The school unfortunately was taking lowbids.. so they didn't buy Micron. Big mistake.

Hope you get a great machine whatever you chose. We just bought our first Micron laptop based on a workhorse Micron desktop that we've had for almost 8 years. It just keeps going and going and going.. even with 2 teens using it.

I hate it when pepole attack computer companys

by tuxmaster - 3/18/07 2:35 AM In reply to: Why not consider a Micron? by Lisaizme2

With any Major computer manufacture there is one thing that i hate the most. And it has nothing to do with the computer manufacture but the Customers them selfs.

I hate it when Customers attack a company for a bad experance. When you look at it mathematically calculate in how many pepole perchese systems from company X. And how many of them have issues.

COMPUTERS BREAK THAT IS LIFE GET OVER IT.

Facts about computers

FACT if a computer is to break it will tipicly break within the first year

FACT computer manufactures Test there Base systems. IF 1 out of 1000 do not break that is good Odds.

FACT as many parts there is in a computer is as many ways that it could go bad.

Fact as many lines of code there are in a computer is as many ways a computer can have a error.

When you look at it logicly warrenty's have a time limit because the system will eventually break. If you want a warenty to cover a life of a system get the extended warrenty. If you don't care and rather put the trust in the company don't your choice.

Tippicly extended warrentys only go out so far because after a period of time it becomes less economical to repair the system then just get a new one because the parts are either not being manufactured anymore or the new parts are substantially better that it is better to get a new one.

hahahaha

You work for toshiba dont you?

FACT if you looked up what we were talking about, youd see we were talking about faulty systems, not something that just randomly goes wrong which is expected. Seriously, do at least a little research. Did you even read any of the other posts in here?

Maybe tuxmaster did.......

.....and found more than a few people who like their Toshibas (or Dells or Sonys).

Fact:

by JackTheCrow - 3/19/07 8:21 PM In reply to: I hate it when pepole attack computer companys by tuxmaster

...Learn how to spell, so maybe people might consider what you have to say is worth while.

Dude, we all know computers break. The fact is, that customer support is not totally equal when dealing with many major brand companies, period -- and now-a-days with laptops becoming so mainstream, support is very important to everyone from the novice user to the power gamer who spent 3000$ on his new rig.

"I hate it when Customers attack a company for a bad experance. When you look at it mathematically calculate in how many pepole perchese systems from company X. And how many of them have issues."

Exactly. It turns out, many companies have more issues than others. Go search the boards and you'll see stuff like "HP-this" and "Alienware-that." It's a plain fact, computer builds are different when dealing with different companies. To use a recent example, why is it certain laptops will have a reoccurring problem with the power jack soldered to the motherboard? Is it a coincidence that they were all the same model and made by the same company and all the users abused them the same way? not likely. More than likely is that they were made inferior by the main company.

I could go on, but your post just isn't worth it. Do some reading...please...and I don't mean just on computers. Literacy = good thing.

A real dilema...

by Mstroke - 3/18/07 5:31 AM In reply to: Sony, Toshiba or Dell? by johnnyq0311

While I like all three products I have to say that in all honesty I would never buy another Dell machine again just due to their tech support treatment of me and my problems with my first and second machines. That said. Sony is expensive, and the products are somewhat proprietary, so I kinda hate getting into that situation if you encounter anything wrong with it after the warranty runs out. I've used Toshibas and have found they hold up better than the other two and give you a bit better product for the money. My vote would be a Toshiba.

Avoid Toshiba

by dobbsj - 3/19/07 8:02 PM In reply to: Sony, Toshiba or Dell? by johnnyq0311

After repeated problems I was tod to replace it by buying another Toshiba. Toshiba cusotmer service is worse than Dell's. That is hard to believe I know.

I vote for HP.

HP is a good choice, and liable to provide you with the best deal around. I'm typing on a Compaq (HP) V2000 now, which has been replaced by the V3000. Nice machine, a little delicate maybe (not too bad), but the price, customized, couldn't be beat ($480 + shipping). A couple of hundred more expensive now, of course, what with being Vista-equipped, but the upgraded V3000 is a nicer laptop as well, sturdier, with better media buttons and a better finish.

And the winner is....?

by b8375629 - 3/20/07 1:27 PM In reply to: Sony, Toshiba or Dell? by johnnyq0311

Sony, by far. I really like the fact that their customer support is here in the U.S. so you won't have to deal with Sahib reading a script back to you.

Plus, I've been pretty impressed with their SZ series so far, but it will cost you more.

My second choice would be HP business laptops. They're more solid than the Pavilion series and you can still get Windows XP Pro loaded on them instead of the trouble-plagued Vista.
