Easy to use slide show software

by Gyorgi - 3/17/07 1:04 AM In reply to: Need advice to make a quality slide show of my trip by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Chuck, PowerPoint will certainly do what you want, but it will be very labor intensive. Specifically, every single photo will have to be imported, one by one by one. If you want any motion, each photo will have to be animated, one by one by one.

I'd recommend a different program, that is designed to wo exactly what yoou want: make a folder containing all the photos you've selected for your show, and you're almost finished, instead of just getting started. Literally, point the program at the folder, select all, drag to the slideshow window, and while all slides are still all selected, set duration (I recommend 4 seconds as a starting point), select a different duration for the transition (I recommend 1 second), and hit play. That's it!

You can make it fancier if you want: make each photo zoom, rotate, add music, add captions, "vignette" the edges (make them soft), make each photo "float" over a background, but you don't have to.

When you're done, you can make your show into a dvd, a video cd, a screensaver, or an executable that you just double-click on, and it plays.

The program is by Photodex, and is called ProShow (don't let that word "Pro" scare you...) It comes in three levels, from $49 to $249, although the basic one will do most of what I described above.

It can be examined, and purchased, on-line, at http://www.photodex.com/

Important: I am not an owner, employee, or investor in Photodex, I'm just a happy user.

Enjoy!

Photodex ProShow is the BEST!!

by sit on it - 3/24/07 10:53 AM In reply to: Easy to use slide show software by Gyorgi

I have to agree with Gyorgi that ProShow Gold is one of the best photo show programs out there right now. A few months back a spent quite a bit of time searching for a program that would be quick, easy, but give me the ability to have control over everything, and ProShow does!!! You can export your final show into just about any format you want very easily. You get free updates for one year from purchase; you can upload your shows to their site for friends to view.
I love ProShow Gold and have introduced it to numerous photo-frenzy friends who use it regularly now and love it.

Don't have to import photos into Pwrpt one by one

by jpepper - 3/27/07 9:16 AM In reply to: Easy to use slide show software by Gyorgi

Just FYI, it is not really painful to insert a bunch of photos into Powerpoint. From the PowerPoint Menu: Insert / Pictures / New Photo Album : and then browse to folder with your photos, hold down control key & select all the ones you want. You can even do a little editing with contrast & light as well as put beveled or oval frames around them; fill the slide with the photo or put more than one on a page. I pulled in over 100 photos at one time in just a minute! There is an article on MS Office Online about using something called Story Boarding where you export your presentation as individual images & then import those into slideshow or video software to burn to DVD. I have not tried this yet so don't know if it's good way to go.

useing Power piont as a slide show.

by chrishandyman - 3/17/07 1:28 AM In reply to: Need advice to make a quality slide show of my trip by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Power piont is as about as good as it get you can do almost every thing with it,

I did the same myself two years ago i traveled throughout the states armed with camera's Digital and film rolls took hundreds of shots
The rolls of film were deleveloped and put onto disc the digital where loaded on to the pc for storing then i took the following action.

Firstly insure your copy of power piont is both legal and up to date check with microsoft updates to ensure you have all the required updates. Then off you go it fairly easy to do,load up the film or pictures in order add text as required and any background music from the media player and off you go. remember to keep backing it up both to pc and to a recordable media disc because if your pc crashes you will lose the lot and start again. Power piontis simple to use you dont need OEM neor unless you love spending money anyway its harder to use.

Have fun i enjoyed it and at the same time i learned something new with out being tought by experts.

Hi Chuck,

Yes you can use powerpoint but then you wouldn't be able to play them on DVD's or a computer without powerpoint, Ability Present or the open office equivalent.

With windows XP (Possibly Vista) you get something called Windows Movie Maker, which is very good or you can download windows movie maker 2 from http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/moviemaker2.mspx
Which is better

With windows movie maker you can add effects, credits, text on screen to say what it the photo is about as well as add music and sound or even narrate it! And put it onto DVD.
If you could afford it i would say get a mac becuase IMovie and Idvd is fantastic, on the DVD you can put menu's (Which i beleive you can't on Windows Movie Maker. And the effects are alot better as well.

Best Regards,

Reece

Photo Slide show (Memories on TV)

by muarrif - 3/17/07 2:13 AM In reply to: Need advice to make a quality slide show of my trip by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I have been using "Memories on TV" for a very long time now and havn't found a better solution yet. I have recently upgraded to VISTA and it works fine with VISTA also. Memories on TV allows you to create Photo slide shows in CD, VCD and DVD format that can be played on any dvd/vcd player to watch on TV at later date. The good thing is that it also gives you the option to include originals on that CD/DVD so that you can access the originals at a later time or use it as backup as well as play it on TV. This is particularly useful if you want to create slideshows and share with friends and family but do not want them to access, modify or develope your photos so you simply choose not to include originals and it encodes the slideshow without the original JPEGs.

There are lots of different effects and transitions available as well as menue styles in this program. You can also add music to your slideshow creation and menues. It allows you to choose how long you want each photo to display as well as giving you the option to sync it to your music tracks. This program is very simple to use and you have your DVD ready in 5 to 6 easy steps. I did my wedding Photo DVDs using this program and also holidays but now use it for creating photo DVDs of my baby boy to send to family overseas. My wife is also confident using this and prefers this to the VISTA DVD creator.

Great affordable product. Use the trial version first to see how you like it.

PowerPoint shows (*.pps) and Nero software

by xrascal - 3/17/07 2:16 AM In reply to: Need advice to make a quality slide show of my trip by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Yes to both questions. But free advice first. Use Photoshop Elements to edit your digital images and work with backups, not with originals. Use Nero to burn a CD of your original jpeg files and put it in a safe place as your backup, and then plug and play with Photoshop CS or Elements to organize and edit your show. Once the show is ready in Photoshop, you can port the images into PowerPoint and create your show.

Same problem XP-Home & IE6

by snottgaard - 3/17/07 2:32 AM In reply to: Need advice to make a quality slide show of my trip by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Chuck: I'm experiencing the same problem with Shockwave/Flash under XP-Home SP2 with all updates (expect IE7) - every page that contains them says must download - do so - says successfull - refresh page - says must install - loop-de-loop! Does not seen to affect any other app/helper/etc. Anyone out there know why this is happening in both Vista-IE7 and XP-IE6?Thanks for any help!

Quality Slide Shows

by Angloparisian - 3/17/07 2:43 AM In reply to: Need advice to make a quality slide show of my trip by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Hello Chuck,

We use a very good free programme from Microsoft (yes! FREE from Microsoft!) called Photo Story. You can add text, music, commenataries and a compressed fle is produced which can be played on any computer with Windows Media. The automatically generated flow from one image to another (you can eidt the transition format) means that what you produce is almost a video rather than stills. This file can be saved then to CD. The files are not large enough to need a DVD.

For Title pages I generate JPEG images via PowerPoint and integrate them where required.

There are perhaps other commercial packages which might have more bells & whistles (and more complex) but Photo Story is good and free (Well done Mr Gates!).

The only restriction that we have found is that each presentation is limited to 300 images. So you might have to break dwn your 'once in a lifetime' trip into say one presentation per country.

Hope this helps.

slide show program

by moi et moi - 3/17/07 2:47 AM In reply to: Need advice to make a quality slide show of my trip by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I would suggest that you use, MGI Photosuite 4. I have been using this program for five years to make slide shows , and E-MAILattachments. For making DvDs, Nero is as good as any.I use both at various times.

Photo Slide shows.

by Bagsey - 3/17/07 2:50 AM In reply to: Need advice to make a quality slide show of my trip by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

First of all to answer your query I am going to asssume that you use Windows XP as your OS. There are many free or cheap programs out there that will do a good job of what you want. I personally use DVDPixplay which is not free but is very cheap to buy. I have had issues with it as far as burning Dvds that will play on my standalone player. However the problem has been addressed and now all appears to be OK. During one of my periods of problems I was pointed towards PhotoStory 3 which is a free MS program (Easily found by googling it.) It requires proof of a legal copy of XP being installed.
I tried it and have made many slideshows since and find it very easy to learn and to use. Although it is free to enable you to burn DvDs you need to buy a plugin from Roxio which is again very cheap about £10.00 ( 18$)and I have had no problem at all making discs that run on my stand alone or on any other that I have tried. It allow Titling, lots of movement of the images (zooming, panning etc.) music and commentaries. All in all a very good program. There may be others as good but I doubt if they will be better at zero or minimal cost.
