NO

by meisinscotland - 3/16/07 1:24 AM In reply to: What Happened to Project Planning? by mwcrosby

NO, unfortunately its called business.

Ans stopping supporting XP around 2010 as you indicated [if this is even correct] is VERY generous given that XP is already 5 years old.

Its called business, dear.

Vista OS was in BETA Development for 5 years....

by eidospsogos - 3/15/07 11:39 AM In reply to: Windows Vista Bugs by photoham

If that isn't enought time to make your software compatible with the new OS, well then you're comapny does not deserve continued existence. I bought Vista upon it's release and was shocked to see that even though this OS had had several BETA releases which had accompanying driver releases, all the video drivers and audio drivers I could find were STILL listed as BETA driver releases.

Why is this? YES, I am pissed to. But I aim my anger at those responsible. Different versions of this OS have been available to third party manufacturers for 5 years. That is plenty of time to put together functional software and drivers. Aiming the blame at Microsoft does no good, as it is not their responsibility to make sure that THOUSANDS of devices, programs and drivers will work with their OS.

How anyone can think otherwise, shows their general lack of knowledge concerning things of this nature.

And you cannot compare any Apple OS to Windows, as an Appple OS is written for a specific set of hardware, and thus it is easier to gauge compatibilities, as the amount of variables affecting the chances of compatibility are smaller.

Have you ever tried to buy a video card for a MAC? It's nearly impossible. And why is that? Because Apple expects the hardware to be designed for specific compartibility with the system and OS. So, why is it people expect the opposite from Microsoft products? Everytime someone gets mad about something to do with their computers, they want to blame Microsoft.

There's not a company in the world who could design a PC OS that is compatible with every current hardware and software on the market. And if they did, by the time it was released, it would be incompatible with the hardware and software that had been under development while the OS was being developed.

GROW UP, people. Everything to do with your computer does not fall into the realm of Microsoft's responsibility. Third Party hardware and software manufacturers had 5 years to get their products in order for the realease of Vista. If that's not enough time, I don't know what is. I have a 700 dollar video card that is using BETA drivers, just because NVIDIA is too busy overcharging for their product to give people the support they paid for when they bought the card. How is that Microsoft's fault?

And yes, asigning fault does help, when it is properly assigned. Because if you do not first assign it, and then just ***** at anyone and everyone, then the responsible party can easily ignore your maniacal rants at all passers-by. If people would blame those responsible instead of always attacking "big, bad, irresponsible Microsoft" maybe this wouldn't continue to be a problem. But it's easy for all the third party companies to smile and take your money, when they know you'll just blame all your problems with their software on Microsoft.

incompatibilities in Vista

by pelinor - 3/15/07 11:50 AM In reply to: Windows Vista Bugs by photoham

Maybe it's me, but when a company the size of Microsoft takes an extra long time to release a software package, one would think that all possible major items would be covered for appropriate compatibility issues. In addition, all the other manufacturers of software, hardware and peripherals should have taken the time to get the required coding straight. I received my free upgrade for my desktop, but I am in no hurry to install it, especially at tax season when I'm doing my own family's taxes and I know that this computer works fine right now.

I Still Have XP, My Father Got STUCK with VISTA - New!
by SqueakeyCat - 3/15/07 12:07 PM
In reply to: Vista Upgrade or Downgrade lol by desertsurfergirl

While I still have my XP OS, my father, when he ordered his computer was not even given the option to update his XP from Home to Pro. He was only given the option of VISTA and no other OS.

Even the DELL TECHS say that they no longer even have XP on their systems, but, IF u go searching through their "referbished" and other such items, you find plenty of XP, XP HOME, & XP PRO, along with many other types of Windows OS's.

If they r going to keep them in what they call their "Factory Outlet", then why not let the ppl that want to go back to the XP system, exchange their bought VISTA OS for one of their "Factory Outlet OSs'?

Thats stupid, and the only reason they do it, is so that they can have a tax write-off at the end of the year.

and if you don't believe me, then here, go to this link, and you will see for yourself:

http://outlet.us.dell.com/ARBOnlineSales/topics/global.aspx/arb/online/en/InventorySearch?c=us&cs=22&l=en&s=dfh

then tell people that you can't get XP ne more, even if it is referbished. they also have some that the orders were canceled on, etc. you will c it all at the top of the page, it shows you what you can choose from, including, items that were dented or scratched in shipping.

Windows to blame for bugs?

by rubintheartist - 3/15/07 12:38 PM In reply to: Windows Vista Bugs by photoham

Yes, microsoft is fully responsible. If they can do the development and creation of new software they can and should make it a seemless change for users. Like many I now think I will change to mac when I purchase a new pc later this year. Many of us use windows even people like myself who do web design and graphic design. Our programs are a huge financial investment and are directly associated with working income. Microsoft has acted in an insensitive manner yet again. This time the financial security of many are being adversely effected by their lack of concern. It is far more than minor issue! And, is this change truly needed or is it, as some have said, a money making scheme for microsoft and certain vendors? I don't feel that the industry as a whole should jump through hoops at microsoft's whim. If you are the biggest and the best.... prove it through diligent kindness to your clients! I give microsoft a resounding BOOOOOO for this stunt. I have every intention of joining millions of people who will not go through the expense of maintaining a windows operating system any longer than the lifespan of my current pc.

It's the fault of many!!!! Them, you, and me!

by coffeecan - 3/15/07 1:05 PM In reply to: Windows Vista Bugs by photoham

No,it's not m/s fault! It is the fault of many. Them, you, and me.
I will remember who was ready and who wasn't. They are the ones that will get my business.
Computing is not a hobby and it's not just a thing where folks sit around and argue the differences, as though they are expressing their likes and dislikes between Chevy and Ford and Honda and Toyota and
Mercedes and BMW, etc. . like you see on the forums from time to time. (Don't get me wrong, I love the forums. I get a lot help here.)
But computing is BIG BIB BIG BIG business!
If the auto manufacturers did as poorly at producing a product as the computer and software folks, they would be out of business. If my cars or trucks "crashed" as often as computers, we would be riding something besides an automobile.
Sure, there are bugs to be worked out but, hey, how about if Boeing Aircraft put out an unready product as these folks, what would happen. Wow, just guess.
They should have all coordinated and been ready to launch together.
It is rather pathetic and speaks loads about the sh---y corporate world and their great inabilites to lead.
I am not in the auto industry. I am a small business man. Plain and simple.
My company can not treat our customers the way the virtual world treats theirs. We would be out of business.
The computer and software producers have been having at us for years with a lot inferior products and we sit there and say, how about that.
I gotta go, I can't take this anymore today, especially after having just spent TWO hours on line and another hour and thirty minutes on the phone with tech support. If this keeps up, I'm going to apple!!!

Too late for finger pointing

by jpcalo8 - 3/15/07 1:26 PM In reply to: Windows Vista Bugs by photoham

Vista is here and most of us have or will have issues with this product. It would be nice if cnet would post when popular softwares such as Spybot, Ad-Aware, Zone Alarm, etc have produced a Vista compliant product under a Vista compliant link.

I Agree

by rblauter - 3/15/07 1:32 PM In reply to: Windows Vista Bugs by photoham

Just bought a new notebook from HP. It came with
Vista. Naturally, my first thought was to transfer a lot of
files to the new notebook with folder sharing. It wouldn't
share with my XP machine at all. Long story short, it's still
an open call with Microsoft. It should have just worked!!!

Regarding drivers, Vista should have been totally compatible
with the interface techniques used for XP. There is no reason
to change. "Upward compatability" is a standard industry
convention. The only reason not to be upwardly compatible is
simple arrogance: "We have such a better way to do things that
we just couldn't be compatible." That is baloney. I am
thinking of replacing Vista with XP. That way, I have a known
commodity.

A bug or just bugging

by finnfrench - 3/15/07 1:32 PM In reply to: Windows Vista Bugs by photoham

In each year or decade or century, something new comes along. Of course, during the introduction of something new, it is found to have some "bugs" that are sometimes very problematical. Hence, when the first plane flew, there were some problems. If most can recall a few years back (was it really that long ago), there were those that battled between the video tape industry giants as to whether a system should operate under the Sony Beta tape recorders or the VHS system. Both had their positives and both had negatives. Eventually, the VHS system overcame and eventually "buried" the Beta system.
Even as recently as two years ago, there were instances of "industry" standards issues with television. Needless to say, we (collectively) have accepted these issues and overcome our misgivings and our troubles with these new systems. One will, eventually overcome the detractors and be successful.
This is true of the Vista system. In the print industry, there are a number of problems with the Vista system vs the Adobe system. Most are incompatible with each other. However, the print industry will have to accept it's responsibility to upgrade and change to meet the demands of their customers whom will be utilizing the new Vista system.
Is it fair? Well, think about it for a moment. Was it fair for the train to replace the conestoga wagon? Was it fair that eventually, the Diesel locomotive to replace the steam engine? How about the old flivver being replaced by the modern and sleek piece of machinery we now call the car? In each case, obstacles were overcome, detractors were satisfied by "upgrades" and accomodations.
No one says you have to buy or have Vista. But if you wish to keep apace with the world at large, then you must be able to communicate with this Vista system. Perhaps there is another, better system out there and someone will either find it or invent it. But until then, there really isn't a lot of choice in the matter. Unless you just decide to pull the plug.

yes microsoft is responsible

by dale131 - 3/15/07 1:46 PM In reply to: Windows Vista Bugs by photoham

If a pro0gram is running corectly on Windows XE .... it should run on Vista. This has frequently been a problem when Microsoft Updates. And I think it is criminal negligence on their part ..... and yes I think the program should have to work before it sold to us ..... thinking about changing to a MAC ... at least they seem to be responsible manufacturers. I can beleive the part in the movie when Gates told Jobs .... "It does not have to work before we sell it."

Dissagree

by rparnell - 3/15/07 1:48 PM In reply to: Windows Vista Bugs by photoham

Sorry windows have to take responsibility for inflicting this abomination on us.

I have spent over 8 hours on the phone ( to date) trying to get my issues with Vista fixed nothing has caused me so much grief even: ME ran without problems. Yes it crashed and died a couple of times but.../

HP tell me no drivers till July, went out and bought a new laser printer. It too worked just fine in XP pro. Yes I know apples and oranges but this is too much.

Boot up gives me (usually) 10 items that windows deems has developed a fault and windows is very kindly protecting my computer and shutting down the service. GEE they worked JUST FINE IN XP PRO. Even windows sidebar shuts down every time I reboot, Oh yes it is protecting me from me!.

I cannot yet communicate with me (desktop to laptop) on my own network and they cannot tell me why yet. that is NOT third party software.

My wife cannot print anything since I upgraded again not a third party software issue. AND as I cannot communicate with any other computer on MY network then we cannot simply print. Just as well I have a good supply of flash drives.../

AND it shuts itself down and goes to CHKDSC when I restart.

So I sit here and wait yet again for Sam to phone from the very distant call centre with terrible line noises that they blame on me and they hang up on me and tell me I was not home...

I am going to give them this last chance to fix this today then I will go take this to the Canadian head office right here in Mississauga Ont. and dump this $2000 dollar door stop in their front door maybe if they cannot communicate with their own front door they may understand the frustrations they are causing and do something.

They should NOT have released this until it worked, this is at least $100 per customer we are paying to be or get this very angry!

Windows Vista

by sn494k - 3/15/07 1:53 PM In reply to: Windows Vista Bugs by photoham

As long as Microsoft monopolize the operating systems market this problem will persist. Microsoft will manipulate the market for her own interests.

Anyway Vista is a powerful operating system that need its time to strengthen. I am not going to buy Windows Vista yet maybe in a latter time.

I also use Linux but Windows is indispensable operating system mostly for its simplicity
