Yes, it's Microsoft's, Billl Gates, Steve Ballmer's and George Bush's fault.
It's always somebody else's fault isn't it.
It's the age of victimhood, blame and lack of responsibility for anything that happens to you.
Is anyone in this country capable of taking responsibility for their own lives and decisions?
Nobody forced me to buy MS XP Pro or any other MS product. I did it on my own time and dime for reasons that made sense to me, despite all my Macaholic friends imploring me to just go Mac.
Since Microsoft is not an open source program like Linux, they need to make sure the OS is up to date with the latest software and drivers from major manufacturers. Furthermore, Microsoft needs to make sure and give all manufacturers time to make sure their equipment will run efficienty on a new OS.
Some people are blaming the software or hardware companies...I can't see that at all.
This is all Microsoft's doing and in reality, they shouldn't have released VISTA until it was compatible for most, if not all, applications. Way to go Bill - stick to us again!
BTW, I refuse to go to Vista, fine keeping my XP Pro and it's running great!
As usual, people are quick to blame someone else for their problems. There were release candidates available to the public to test out Vista long before it release a final version. You don't go putting an engine in your car that doesn't fit likewise diesel fuel in your unleaded only gas tank, so why put Vista on your machine that you KNOW isn't compatible. I've have seen "VISTA READY" tags on everything these days and if you had any questions about your current hardware you should have looked it up. The same goes for software. I guess that since I'm in the IT field, I look at things a bit differently when it comes to installing an OS. First rule of thumb......NEVER upgrade, always do a clean install buddy. If you didn't have an extra partition on your drive to install...go buy a new one.(60 bucks gets you 250GB these days) Once you installed that TEST OS, then you do exactly that, TEST it. Find out where you're lacking and if its even worth you upgrading. If everybody did this, we wouldn't be having this discussion right now, so until then go and complain to all of these software vendors who don't have drivers ready just yet.
A company that produces software ought to take into accaount the compability of their products; particularly if it is something like a basic one like Windows.
As you know, to use vista home edition you practically have to renew your computer or buy a new one compatible with it. I forsee that vista will suffer the same fate as MSDOS 5.0
The world awaits your insight! I suppose that the company that released MS-DOS 5.0 went out of business? Hmmm ... or was it that it was replaced by MS-DOS 6.0? And then maybe something else? Oh yeah it was OS/2 that replaced it! I remember now ...
Microsoft is to blame asnevery time they bring out a new OS they dilibrety make sure that the exsisting driver and software will not work on it.
Well, I kinda wish I had not upgraded to vista. First when I received the upgrade disk the software would not let me upgrade only to full windows. So, no migration. No migratiion. Now I find out that I cannot operate certain games, such as Tiger Woods 2007 and others. i sure hope I don't have the same problem with the Office 2007 upgrade. Not happy with vista. Samwes44
I am not an IT professional. But this forum and several others have convinced me to stay away from Vista. Bought a new notebook (yet to be delivered). Chose to stay with Win XP professional (inspite of the aggressive sales pitch), though I have kept the option of upgrading(??) to Vista. I have too many softwares and too hectic a life to bother about driver upgrades etc. A case in point - bought Adobe Acrobat Professional 7.0 less than a year back. Soon after, they released Ver 8.0 (Oh S**t!). Now while Adobe has promised that they will release patches for 8.0 for Vista compatibility, they have flatly refused to do the same for 7.0 !!! Surely Adobe knew, Vista was on the way..when they released Acrobat 7.0. This is just to make us buy their 8.0 (or upgrade) Its all about money...Honey!! It seems ALL the Software majors are up to mutual back-scratching. Just a statement from a Non IT end-user point of view..
If Microsoft didn't release info to developers soon enough... it's Microsofts fault. Conversely, if the developers HAD the info they needed to develope patches or new drivers it's their fault.
Something tells me, as making money is the point of developing ANYTHING, Microsoft dropped the ball. If the developers had whatever they needed to upgrade their products to Vista, knowing that all the new computers would be preloaded with Vista, they would have provided their customers with updates simply because it's good business. Let's be real and admit that this is not a big priority for Microsoft as customer satisfaction has never been a concern of monopolies.
Of course it is Microsoft's fault. If they are incapable of developing updates to their OS without making everything incompatible then they are doing a lousy job. When Apple does a major OS upgrade I just have a cup of coffee while the Mac installs the new software and updates everything on my computer. Then I just continue work with all the same Apple and third party software. With Mac, it is rare (even with the change to Intel) to have much software that no longer works.
Actually it looks like Vista is Microsoft's biggest disaster yet. Even more people are now saying they have had enough of the problems and are moving to Linux or Mac.
That's because apple controls the hardware. When they control the hardware there is very little for them to actually support. And you lose the freedom to use the hardware of your choice.
I don't like paying apple for overpriced hardware when I can build my own PC for a fracton of the cost.
If apple had to support the number of hardware combinations that Windows does they would have the exact same issues.
Fortunately what you say is completely untrue. Even Dell's CEO admits that a Mac with the same specs is cheaper than a Dell.
As for hardware, just about every external device (disk drives, mice, scanners, cameras, etc) that is made for PCs works fine on a Mac and in most cases needs nothing more than just plug it in.
Everytime Microsoft introduces a new OS or any other type of software product, others have to up the ante. Let's be honest and face the fact that essentially, the G L O B E L operating system is that of which is offered from Microsoft. Microsoft has provided ample time for other's to define their own software / hardware capatability for the new OS, even though Microsoft Vista itself has a set of issues (as it has always been with new OSys') to iron out. Why Microsoft is offering so many variations of Vista, is my question. Dumb, really.
When possible, no one should purchase the first run of anything, so I'm going to wait a year or so and experience trouble free (LOL) computing.
Microsoft is not even supporting Norton Anti Virus Software for this Operating Systm "Vista". Tell me they are not causing problems. They are making little effort to provide for their clients, which is YOU & ME who PAY & PAY & PAY. I was a DOS User - MS-DOS that is MICROSOFT. They have the technology, they have the money, they have the clients, and they have the engineers. They know how to make INTEGRATED Software and I am sure it they palnned this. Vendors have a choice of paying Microsoft or getting left out. "VISTA" is designed for everyone to make money. Sure they programmed in a few nice perks.
We will pay whether we have it on our computer or not. Government, Schools, Hospitals, Department of Motor Vehicles, and Businesses;they all will eventually upgrade and this time hardware, millions of dollars will have to be spent for compliance. So we will continue to PAY and BG will get more wealthy. I am disgusted with the whole situation.
with their own programs -- case in point the ability to save docs created in word 2007 in a version readable by earlier versions of word -- don't see a similar accomodation for 3rd party vendors.
Agree w/ whoever said Yes, backward compatiblity is the responsibility of Microsoft.
