If you don't assign blame and tell people about a company that isn't even trying, then people will continue to enlargen their pockets and the problem will never be fixed. While I honestly hate Microsoft, I don't believe it's their fault. Your bank probably coded the page from scratch and m,ade a mistake. Try Firefox 2.01 or SeaMonkey (if they insist on netscape) or even Opera (never tried it). All these programs are free so don't hesitate to mix and match. You may also want to try installing various plugins.
yep
Microsoft Vista makes everybody incompatible so everybody pays to Vista to be compatible.
Everybody then charges users in so EASY PAYMENTS of $19.95.
and Microsoft Vista thinks its a smart CON cause its not directly them to blame.
everybody gets paid except the user.
whew!
John's right, I fully agree with him.
OS development takes time and cost money.
Vista has reached thus far, where it's workable and
justifiable to get your money, as well as to get some fat guinea pigs.
Like its predecessors, it should take at least another 6 months to be
really stable or seamless OS.
By then, most "Vista ready" hardwares now, should be able to run in VB.
Higher OS would require the power of a dual core systems.
Vista is already more stable than XP was. I had three instances of Blue Screen when I first got my XP PC in the first two months. I have now had a Vista machine for almost two, and no Blue Screen's at all.
Vista was ready for Prime-Time, it was the software, hardware and other vendors who were not on the ball, thinking that Microsoft would delay Vista once again.
They were wrong, and now they and us are paying for it.
The problem comes down to Microsoft pushing driver and software vendors to use the registry for program internal communications. This is the part of the operating system that was changed and causes the incompatibilities. By restricting access to the registry Microsoft has reversed it's long standing policy of pushing data through the registry which makes most 3rd party software incompatible with vista.
I have been in the public beta test of both Vista and Office 2007 for about 10 months. There is a major problem with Office 2007 outlook running very, very slowly (on Vista and XP both) after some time on a some machines and various setups. Dozens of folks are reporting it on the form for this purpose. Of course Microsoft does NOT support beta programs, and apparently does not monitor the forms they setup either, as they have not made any effort to correct the problem with outlook 2007.
When contacted, they shut you down very quickly when they find out you are running a beta program...no discussion under any case....
You are assuming of course that it is a problem with Office 2007 Outlook. It could be that ANOTHER program that you are running is having problems with Outlook.
Microsoft is an ass when it comes to beta programs, but that's why they have a big warning saying "Beta Software! Do not download if you are not knowledgeable because there will be little or no support!"
That is something that some people just don't read.
While I think Microsoft can be somewhat held harmless should the 3rd party vendors do not update drivers, from a management perspective, they can certainly be accused of being somewhat insensitive and maybe stupid. Surely they must have known of the incompatabilities but calcuated that the risk of putting non functional computers in peoples hands following an upgrade was going to occur. Hence one can only surmise that they choose this path becuase they wanted to put pressure on lazy 3rd party suppliers, or they just wanted the revnue. Personally, if anything as a business owner the last thing I would want to do is to issue an update to my product that causes that which the update is designed to work on to not function. Either way Microsoft is guilty of only thinking of Microsoft and the users be damned. That is how I see it.

Since Windows hit the market and changed the way we use a computer it has always been backward compatable, now we have Vista, pushing the user to Microsoft products and forceing many to upgrade functional 2nd party software product vendors. I just purchased a new computer with XPpro just to ovoide the problems with Vista. My wife waited to long to get her new laptop and ended up with Vista, she has spend many hours makeing it work and many more bucks to purchace new software compatable. Burned once wo wo on you, burned twice wo wo on me. From what I read it sounds like Vista is another Windows 2K.
NO, Microsoft is not to blame. Companies knew this OS was coming out and should have been prepared. I have a cousin who works for Microsoft and he is tired of peple blaming Bill gates and his company for the problems that they do not create. And that includes the web sites who do not keep up-to-date with the code of Internet Explorer, the only browser I prefer to use.

OS manufacturers have no responsibility? Rubbish! Calling Windows 'Windows' implies compatibility! It is not impossible, or even difficult, to build compatibility into a new version, and saying that MS has no responsibility to do is is just not even realistic. Why would they not? Other computer manufactures have produced operating systems that provided full upward compatibility over decades and generations of computer software/hardware. It is not impossible, although it does require a commitment from management to make it happen.
But you must realize that Microsoft is driven by one goal only and that is greed. Not 'building a better product', not 'giving benefit to the customer', but purely and simply maximizing revenues for Microsort. Period. There is a long history that corroborates and explains that side of Microsoft for those who care to examine its past.
So the bottom line is, MS does not care what happens to your applications, MS has NEVER made any effort to achieve Windows version compatibility. MS has only one goal, and that is to sell you the new version even though your current version may be entirely adequate for your needs. Version incompatibilites encourage third-party software suppliers to modify their products for the new Windows, which then contributes to the 'forced upgrade' mentality that produces revenue for Microsoft, since any new user of the third-party software is now required to purchase the new OS as well.
Yes, all manufacturere have a responsibility to their customers to produce products that benefit the user, but not all of them take this responsibility seriously. When there is no competition, the 800-pound gorilla can sleep wherever he wants, even in your back yard at your expense!
What I don't understand is why many vendors failed to produce proper drivers prior to Vista's release as it seems like things are much worse than under other windows releases. I've been running Vista since its offical release and I have had no problems with it running on my 2 year-old home brew (a 4.0 rating). It is stable and nice to look at and I enjoy the seemly overall integration of all the components. But why has ZoneAlarm not released a Vista version yet? Why did it take Epson 2 months to release a driver for my $700 Stylus 2200 but one for my $100 Epson 200 was supported out of the box? The latest verzion of paperport works better (faster) under Vista than XP, I've had no problems with Firefox or Office 2003 or quicken or turbotax. Photoshop CS2 required a very minor fix. If you want to run to a mac and get locked into Steve Jobs vision of what a computer should be, be my guest. I believe that all computers and software disappoints because it's all relative to your own experience. I'm sticking with Vista.
We all look forward to updates to become bigger, faster, stronger! MS may be late for their release schedules, but they have come out with better products. Should the 3rd party venders want to drag their feet on making updates, I have no problem with moving to another 3rd party vender. It is about Moore's Law. I just cannot wait to see the next release from MS, Intel or AMD!
Anyone who believes this is Microsoft's issue is out of touch and just another member of the 'let's blame the big guy' society who knows little of what they speak . This product has been years in the making and the code has been available to 3rd party vendors longer than any previous release. Microsoft released VISTA with 60,000 updated drivers. To be 100% compatible out of the gate with 90% + of the worlds computers and software is not a realistic goal for anyone.
I do a lot of 3D, CAD, DTP, etc. and know that many of the software vendors, including the giant Autodesk, has been lax in updating their software to be compatible with VISTA. They are too busy improving their products base performance and functionality just to remain competitve.
Move to MAC? Go ahead. Become part of the 2.8% population commited to a product that gets attention from software vendors only after the majority (MS Windows) is satisfied. Heck, even ADOBE has stopped releasing product upgrades for the MAC before Windows versions are released...and that's pretty telling.
Move to MAC? Go ahead. Just a very short time ago many felt the solution to spam and hackers was to migrate over to the MACs. It made sense. What spammer or hacker wants to waste their resources on such a small group of the populus? MAC + INTEL + MS WINDOWS? OMG, look what the future now holds for the MACs!
Move to Mac? Go ahead...great looking covers but cheap build, proprietary, under performing pieces of mish mash targeted towards the technically illerate!
I earn my self employed living on my computer. I can't afford wasting time on something that under performs. My current Mac is 6 years old. I bought this one when my previous one was 10. It is hard to justify buying a new Mac when the old ones still work great! No other product I have bought serve me as competently as my 5 macs. They don't get Spam, Viruses, Spyware and I may wait a tad for Adobe to tweak my CS2 but it usually works better than the PC version. Even Xerox uses Macs as RIPs for their systems so I have trouble buying your "under performing pieces of mish mash targeted towards the technically illerate!" comment. You may have a point about my literacy, I don't know a lot about writing code or solving software conflicts, I don't have to! I've never needed IT to keep my machine running smoothly.
