I have Microsoft Works installed. I went to use the program to write a letter and Shazam it wouldn't do a darn thing. I just got the old Microsoft error saying to submit a report. A lot of good that's going to do. They never get back to you.The program worked a few weeks ago now nothing. Could it be that I have too many security programs or maybe that I uninstalled IE7. I tried reinstalling it but to no avail. I'm stumped and need help desperately!
The usual fix is to delete the NORMAL.DOT file. More about at http://wordprocessing.about.com/cs/quicktips/qt/normalstart.htm

Hi I guess I should have said that I have Micro Works installed as a stand alone program. I have no Word program. It worked fine before then suddenly no work....
Microsoft Works was a stand alone program that I have purchased. It worked fine up till today. I can't use the darn thing to do any letters or any of it components. Is there a way to restore it's function?
Later versions tossed the old Works word processor with Word filling in. The normal.dot fix works here.

Hi
I have Microsoft Works 7.0 installed it worked now it doesn't I do not have a link for you. I wish Microsoft error reporting would allow copying of the error report it would make things so much easier.
While you can try the usual uninstall and reinstall http://support.microsoft.com/kb/271080/en-us tells me "Microsoft Word can open a Works Word Processor document in its native format." so Open Office may be a good substitute (and free) if the uninstall and reinstall doesn't cure it.
Have you looked for that normal.dot file and deleted it?

thanks for your patience. The darn thing works now mysteriously, but now it screwed up my email....outlook has taken over instead of my yahoo mail...so onward to more discovery...thanks again for your input. Seems outlook express is attached to Microsoft Works and comes with guess what Microsoft messenger yahoooo another program I have no use for..do you think deleting these 2 would mess things up?
I can't speak for everyone else here.
Yahoo email is web based unless you pay for POP/SMTP access. In any case it's all in the setup. Try setting it up one more time.
