Text size

by Amos16 - 11/3/06 11:00 AM

Hi - One - how do you increase the text box on Yahoo-beta mail? I takes up horizontally about two thirds of the screen, and lots of text is left out. Can you make it take up the whole width even with 1024x... resolution? Two - Using Control+Mouse Wheel sometimes increases the size of the font in IE6, and sometimes it does not. In Yahoo2 Beta it never does. Any ideas? Thanks in advance - Amos.

Yahoo! Mail Beta...

by John.Wilkinson Moderator - 11/3/06 1:55 PM In reply to: Text size by Amos16

For your first question are you referring to the "Good Afternoon, John. You have no unread messages in your inbox." block on the Home tab that also displays the percentage of used inbox space and the current time? If so then you can adjust it but not by a whole lot...you can drag the dividing line that separates the viewing window from your folder list to adjust the amount of pace allotted for each.

For the second question, it should work in Yahoo! Mail Beta as it should for just about every other website. If it's not I would look at IE6 as the culprit and try a repair installation of it to resolve the glitch. Also try using Ctrl and the +/- keys instead of the mouse wheel and see if that makes a difference.

The actual text

by Amos16 - 11/4/06 7:51 AM In reply to: Yahoo! Mail Beta... by John.Wilkinson Moderator

Hi - I mean the space where the actual text is printed. It is 5 inches wide, while the whole size of the monitor screen is about 10 inches. There are some ads outside it but most of the space not covered by text is white. Reading the text as it came in means playing with the < and > keys at the bottom. Any solutions? Tx. Amos

Sorry Amos, but I'm still not sure exactly what you are referring to. Are you speaking of the body of an e-mail in the viewing pane? If so does this occur with all e-mails or just specific ones?

If you can, could you post a screenshot of what it is you are seeing? I think that would really help in this case. If you do, be sure to black out your username, e-mail addresses, and anything else displayed that you don't want to be seen.

John - thanks again. I tried a screenshot but the screen on my Beta will not shoot, whatever I do, and with the same keys I use on the regular Yahoo mail. The area in question is called the "reading pane" by them. Does that make it clear? - Amos.

Text in reading pane

I have Yahoo's Mail Beta as well, but not having any problem like you are. I take it this area is the only place you are having a problem with text and nowhere else on Yahoo's site or anywhere else on the Net? Another idea you could try is by going back to the original look of Yahoo's Mail and see if anything changes that way. Right underneath your username You will see the options "Sign Out, My Account, Switch Back." Click on Switch back to go to the original look of Yahoo Mail. Hope this helps your problem.

Yes, but

Thanks Mr niceguy, been switching back and forth like mad because I have to each time I want to read my mail. In general I've been trying to keep up with progress and put my resolution at 1024X... This is too small when I go to the original Yahoo mail, but Beta is not quite readable with 800X. And indeed the reading pane is the only place where I am having this trouble. And switching means I have to reduce or increase the resolution size each time I do so - too many keys to strike and too long a time to wait. Any other suggestions? - Amos.

Maybe adjust the size of the overall text?

The only other thing I can suggest is to change the size of text of the entire screen in your browser. The only browsers I have running is Avant browser (which I think is the best) and Internet Explorer 7 (IE7), so if you're using FireFox I don't know how to change the text size.
