TV Size in Small Room

by jkeeler13 - 2/28/07 6:25 AM

I have a small bedroom (10x11) that I will be using as a home theatre room. I have measured and estimate the viewing distance to be 8'. I would really like to get the PDP-5070, but it is a 50" plasma and I am concerned that it may be too large from 8'. Everything that I am reading is saying 42" is the right size.

My only concern is that the 42" has a smaller resolution and is not able to display a 720p signal fully. Does this really matter on a screen of this size?

50"

I am sort of in the same boat as you as far as viewing distance goes. I went with a 50" SXRD and don't feel like it is too big for the about 8 ft viewing distance.

Trust me, you will regret passing up the 50". Consumer Reports says that the biggest gripe HDTV owners have with their purchase is that they should have gotten a bigger screen size.

Though I use a 43" at longer viewing distance

I've been curious about other threads of essentially the same question. So I sat closer & consider it as just fine. More enveloping picture. It's not the same as the old CRT parents admonition to back away. The higher resolution makes the difference.

72" d.l.p. seating distance 9 ft. its like the sweet spot in a movie theater . I say go huge like the 70" Sony. The thing about a large screen size is that you get the true movie theater experience that you dont get with your postage stamp size t.v. ha ha steweee

Life's too short...Gofor the big one. HD will look great from any distance. You might want to look at the Panasonic 50" 600U. The price is now down to $1748 and change. Great set and less than the Pioneer.

GO WITH THE 50" MODELS..........

by Riverledge - 2/28/07 6:22 PM In reply to: TV Size in Small Room by jkeeler13

AS SOMEONE ALREADY MENTIONED MOST FOLKS REGRET BUYING A 42" model when a similar 50" only costs a couple hundred more.

You know the old saying "size makes a difference," particularly true with any HDTV format. Go with the larger set, second guessing youself isn't worth the agony. 50" NO REMORSE..........

It doesn't have a PC input. I am pretty sure I am going to roll with the PDP-5070.
