Cnet Tips & Tricks is something that Bill Gates does not like, he ratter you call Micrsoft and pay 25.00 to get the same info.... Billy Amato (NYC).
Dear Bill,
Saw all of your previous E-Mails about this problem. Thank you so much for your persistance. Just got a new laptop from Dell with Vista operating system installed. The computer geeks at my job were unable to figure out this problem. I am a total novice who is just learning how to use a computer. But even "I" was able to follow your simple instructions to install the patch! Thank you so much for sharing this information to a very frustrating situation. Now my only question is: What is the Sonic Driver used for??? Tech guys at work thought it has something to do with the DVD Burner ... I don't have the vaguest idea. Thanks again for your persistance. And thanks for sharing it with others.
I'm not Bill, but the guys at work were right. The Sonic driver is to enable special functionality when it comes to burning CDs and DVDs. Specifically, DLA lets you treat a CD-RW/DVD-RW/DVD+RW disc similar to a floppy, saving files directly to it and then erasing individual files. (Using 'normal' burning methods, you would have to save the file to your hard drive first and then burn it, and you would have to erase the entire disc if you wanted to remove a single file from rewritable CDs/DVDs.) This is obviously a huge benefit, but it is not as reliable as using 'normal' methods. Thus, some would recommend using your Nero/Roxio/Sonic burning software as you normally would and simply ignoring DLA.

Thanks for your response to help me understand more about the Sonic Solutions DLA and what it does. Your info was very helpful. All of this is very intimidating to a "baby boomer" who is just getting started. But thanks to people like you ... I feel like I'm finally moving into the 21st century! Thanks again for taking the time to explain.
Hey buddy, thanks a lot it works keep up the good work
Just bought a DELL XPS 410 with VISTA and cannot burn/copy from hard drive to disc (tsstcorp cddvd rw ts-h493a). Can burn from cddvd rw ts-h493a to hard drive and to recordible DVD RW drive.
Down loaded this DLA patch and the pop-up went away but still didn't solve problem of being able to back-up,copy/burn from my hard drive to cddvd rw ts-h493a. Tried drag and drop and copy paste function but did not work.
Has anybody exerienced this problem and if so does anyone know of a fix. Your help is much appreciated. Thanks......PJD

You know what you're talking about.
I dont have a dell, yet unistalling (kb929427) stopped the annoying popup
I had previously only unistalled KB929427. I monitored my updates and one of the new updates either KB929399 OR KB32246 caused the blocked program stuff all over again. I only installed the roxio links that were recommended and it worked. HP nx6125 upgraded to vista.
