DVD 99.9999. TCM/HBO/IFC next. VHS unused. HD/Blu no way.

by XXPepper - 2/28/07 5:56 AM In reply to: In what format do you watch movies the most? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Not going to do HD/BlueRay until one of them wins. (Prefer "HD" just because I'd rather have "Blue Ray" be either a movie/comic character or the guy w/ the old Kay guitar down in the subway.)

Will do download movies when we can watch them on the TV with both no trouble and no quality loss (below DVD). Otherwise sticking with Netflix and the cable guys.

Cable Premium HD channels ( thru my cable supplier Comcast )

by jwv - 2/28/07 6:15 AM In reply to: In what format do you watch movies the most? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Don't go out It's coming to cable channels & I get all of them .
Yes it does take a few months but who cares if it's behind . i don't
have conversations of who done it's with everyone I know . So i can wait till it comes . I do purchase DVD's but usually wait till blockbuster runs a sale on previously used - usually @ 1/2 coast or less . Yep I'am frugal.

HDDVD or BLUE RAY TOO DASRN EXPENSIVE & NOT THAT MUCH BETTER FOR THAT KIND OF MONEY .

Mix N Match

by Beaters - 2/28/07 6:16 AM In reply to: In what format do you watch movies the most? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I watch a lot of movies. Mainly I get them from Netflix and by download with some theater watching occasionally.
Personally I have no intention of jumping on the HDTV bandwagon, at least not any time soon. I might go as far as 720p but the whole HD/Blue Ray thing leave me cold. It's mainly a ploy to get us to cough up more money and I've already spent a helluva lot.
Also, it's all linked up with a push for more DRM and that disgusts me. Maybe I'll consider moving on when the DRM has been thoroughly cracked and pounded to smithereens.

on the silver screen

by 64068 - 2/28/07 6:20 AM In reply to: In what format do you watch movies the most? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I prefer to see them in the theater. I get to see them while they're still relatively new (though I rarely go the first week of release.) Plus, I get to see them on the 'big screen' with the full THX Dolby surround sound experience. I now have a big screen LCD 1080p TV with a surround sound system but it's still not as good, IMHO, as the theater. Also, I'm not one to watch a movie over and over. Once I've seen it, I know the plot and I know how it ends, so I rarely have the urge to watch again. There are some exceptions, so I do own a few DVDs, but not many. I would add that the price of Blue Ray and it's competitor are both too high at this point to justify the purchase.

DVD is cheaper than going to the Movies.

by jayhelman - 2/28/07 6:21 AM In reply to: In what format do you watch movies the most? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I'm not a movie junkie so I'll just save some money and wait for the DVD to come out.

I'm sticking with DVD for now

by jensays - 2/28/07 6:24 AM In reply to: In what format do you watch movies the most? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

The quality is definitely good enough to satisfy my viewing needs, plus they're convenient. But none of these formats will ever replace the enjoyment I had as a little kid of seeing a movie on a huge screen in the theatre, now that was an experience that can't be replicated even on a large screen TV! The HD format doesn't really appeal to me because I don't need to see such finite details (an actresses zits?) to enjoy a film.

DivX/XviD

by piercedtiger - 2/28/07 6:25 AM In reply to: In what format do you watch movies the most? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I download movies and watch them. I have DVD's but they're in a box away from the kids, animals, and friends. No point in losing a $20 or more DVD to scratches or friends "borrowing" them. All my downloads sit on a file share my modified Xbox plays on the TV and surround sound. I'm planning on getting a network DVD player that'll do the same in my second living room for the kids to watch their movies.

DVD

by highfrequency79 - 2/28/07 6:34 AM In reply to: In what format do you watch movies the most? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

When the prices come down off of the HD DVD & Blu_Ray players, i will buy one...but even after i do, the only DVD's that i'll replace with HD are my very favorites like Star Wars, LOTR, Matrix trilogy, etc. And then, i'll only buy HD DVD's if the movie is worth it. For instance, even if you like the movie, When Harry Met Sally, why would you need it in lossless sound, etc? Only the action & sci-fi movies will be worth it to me.

Laserdisc

by Edubarca - 2/28/07 6:59 AM In reply to: In what format do you watch movies the most? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I mostly watch movies in the fabulous LASERDISC format. I have been collecting movies and other shows ever since Laserdisc went on sale on December 15, 1978 in Atlanta. I purchased my first player, A magnavox V-8000 and several DiscoVision titles that I still have. Naturally, over the years, I have up-dated my player and I still love the large cover size of Laserdiscs. It is really a pity that both Phillips and Pioneer did not market the product correctly. This made the format to slip down. But I still enjoy my 1500 plus collection of Laserdiscs and will enjoy them as long as the player lasts! I also have DVD, naturally, but I am not willing to through away my hard earned collection just for a consumer's society new gadget even if the quality is better. To me both Laserdisc and DVD deliver enough high quality to make my collection worth keeping. I am from Bogotá Colombia. Nice day to everybody!!

DVR

by DikHagen - 2/28/07 7:10 AM In reply to: In what format do you watch movies the most? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

If there is a good movie on I setup my LG LRM-519 DVR. The quality is equal to watching anything else I can receive on cable or view on DVD, I can skip or wtch any commercials and it is free.

Poor choices in poll

by rfitzva - 2/28/07 7:43 AM In reply to: In what format do you watch movies the most? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I watch about half of my movies in HD. They come from over the air local broadcasts, Directv, and Comcast Cable. I have the minimal cable service that comes with Internet access. Every once in a while I buy a DVD or go to a theater.
I am annoyed when I have to watch a non-HD movie.
