AVG naturally!

by alysterupton - 2/23/07 9:08 PM In reply to: Which antivirus utility protects your computer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I've tried them all! After bad (and expensive) experiences with Norton, McA and Panda I loaded AVG a year ago and have never looked back. It is simple, fast, automatic and FREE! AVG Free Edition now protects all my equipment and has rapidly spread to my colleagues and friends. Try it!

Antivirus

by bettyinsweden - 2/23/07 9:56 PM In reply to: Which antivirus utility protects your computer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I use Computer Associates. Firstly, because I found a years free service. In that year it did a fantastic job, so for the past three years have continued to use it. Originally had Norton, they were no help when we had a problem. I am in Sweden and we telephoned their English speaking service and found the person rude-we were on a little island with no one else there with a pc and he wanted to only send an email that we could not receive. Horrible person, finally he walked me through the fix-but was not sure of what he was doing. Computer Associates fixes the problem and that is the end of it. But, I have taken the advice of many here and run other protection also.

Norton is "A" number One!

by jmsblntn - 2/23/07 10:00 PM In reply to: Which antivirus utility protects your computer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

My Emachines computer came with McAfee and it was as demanding as a high maintenence woman. It was so anal I decided to wipe it from my computer and got Norton to replace it. I would'nt go back to McAfee if it was FREE!

ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite, Adblock Plus, and Spybot

by decobabe - 2/23/07 10:39 PM In reply to: Which antivirus utility protects your computer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

All were encountered on C/net, compared and purchased. So far the other two haven't found anything not already handled by ZoneAlarm.

I use AVG because it's free and has regular updates and has always picked up nasties when ever they have appeared, with no conflicts with other programs.

Kaspersky Replaces Norton and Pc-Cillin for good reasons

by dlauber - 2/23/07 11:34 PM In reply to: Which antivirus utility protects your computer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

After more than a decade of using Norton AntiVirus, I finally gave up with the 2006 version -- another buggy version where the Live Update failed to install updates to the antivirus engine on all of our computers. The final straw was how slow all of our computers had become with Norton installed. Once we switched to a trial of PC-Cillin, all 4 computers returned to full speed. But after 8 months with PC-Cillin, all the computers slowed down again, painfully. Some update to PC-Cillin did it -- and I found out online that we were no alone. PC-Cillin's tech support was pretty bad - almost as dismal as Norton's.

So we tried a trial of Kapsersky Internet Security 6.0 -- wow! What a difference. All of our computers returned to full speed and have stayed there 5 months later. Updating is a seamless breeze. Kaspersky has a very small footprint. It works nearly flawlessly -- the anti-spam filter continues to be a bit awkward to use. What really surprised me is that tech support is based in Masschusetts and they actually listen to you. One of my suggestions was recently implemented in the latest update, which, by the way, made Kaspersky compatible with Vista. All in all, Kaspersky seems to stand head and shoulders above Norton, PC-Cillin, and the sad McAfee.

AVG works fine

by helene_okc - 2/23/07 11:38 PM In reply to: Which antivirus utility protects your computer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I have been using AVG, free for several years, with no problems, it seems to do the work, updates daily. Tried Panda, it took control of my computer, and caused major problems.
