i've been looking around the mp3 players section for almost 1.5 years.
i want a 30GB player below $200. there are no good choices for me at all; the ipod(i hate ipods anyways) and toshiba S don't hav FM radio(since the majority of my collection is vids, i need radio) i tried the zen vision:m in the store, but it's waaaaaay too bulky. the zune is not having discounts yet (over250) the philips has like a 0.1in screen
if any of you see a deal or a player that i missed, i would appreciate telling me :P
thx
The Toshiba Gigabeat S does, in fact, have an FM tuner, and you can get it for around $190 (Amazon), and for about $220(also Amazon) you can get the 60 gig version.
Hi,
I almost bought a Toshiba S yesterday from getting excited over the features on reviews;then I read online reviews from users and many said bigtime bad battery life, expensive 140.00 replacement on battery, and were not clear on the charging of the battery.
I have been looking for a 20 to 30 gb, longish battery life, adapter for car to listen to on road trips, and not run down the battery much like my cell phone uses-some users have said it was hard to find accessories for the Toshiba S and no adapter for car was available?
I also want many formats not just the limited Ipod type-atleast wav and mp3 plus maybe ogg, decent photo use from jpeg- most all pics can convert so no issue on how many it supports, ease of getting tunes into the player from my hard drive like use of explorer getting tunes from 'my downloads' hard drive folder, use of it with windows media 10 or bearshare ,which is a yearly subscription I use on Bearshare Pro, ease of charging, and what is a lossless anyway?
I have come to Cnet,my fav site for reading tech info, many times in last 2 years, and read all over the net.
Some love one -player-another hates it,diff features come out from longer time users of the actual portable players than compared to first reviews on all mp3 players-portable audio players- it seems.
I got my teen a fifth gen Ipod 30 gb; it is easy to use and Itunes does sync tunes off of other places to itunes long as the limited mp3, if one is user friendly with using their own pc-that is a good feature not talked about, but can't play in car and keep it charged the whole time ,use runs the battery down even on adapter?
I think so,but my daughter's Ipod was almost run down the only time we tried it. Would not work then on adapter and my cell with work on adapter even if battery low, so this is a needed feature for a audio portable mp3 ish player for road trips.
Also, I use XP os, but some are limited to this like the Toshiba S?
If I change OS in the future..........will need a player that supports many diff OS's.
I need help, am a single mother who spends a lot on her teen and cannot just buy them all ( mp3 players) one-by-one to find the right one;too costly for me that way.Yet, I want one : )
Help please!

To Paige:
I know the 1st guy said the Zen Vision:M was too bulky but if that is not an issue then definately go with that one. I am honestly not sure if it supports Ogg or Lossless but otherwise its great.
Also sometimes it is best to try these things yourself (even though you said, you can't afford trial and error purchasing) and honestly the chances of your batt. dying in the next 2 or 3 yrs. is slim so that really shouldn't be an issue. As far as the availibility of accessories, well thats a toss-up. I personally feel if its not iPod your going to have difficulty finding accessories in store. I would recommecd the Zune but it doesn't play protected musice so thats a lost cause IF you buy protected music and it looks like you do.
Hope this helps.
