USB headaches

by nzamparello - 2/18/07 1:38 PM

Boy, I am having troubles with USB.. I have a compaq presario s5000v with usb 1.1 and about 2 or 3 days ago, my usb ports started acting very strangely... Devices that were previously connected work fine, my mouse and my usb headset are fine and work as long as they are plugged back into the original ports they were plugged into... But for some reason when I plug new things in, they are not detected, I've even added a usb 2.0 pci card today, that card won't detect anything either... HeLP!

Check USB loading

I had similar problems. I traced the problem to loading over loading the USB system and mixing USB 1 and USB devices. Trail and error plug in fixed my system. My system maxed out when I had more than 3 USBs plugged into my 6 port computer. Bob G

What new things ?

Most "things" require their respective drivers to be installed first before they can be detected....and have you upgraded to SP2 ?

I had the EXACT smae problem and it took me forever to frgutre it out
I went weeks without being able to add music to my mp3 player or soing anyhting through my USB except things that where ALWAYS plugged in
What I did is went to the control panel and to like perfromance and maitnence, then on the left bar I went ot system restore and clicked a date (on the calendar it gives you) and it restored it to a date that worked
and surprisingly it worked
