Digital Camera Purchasing Advice

by noob23 - 2/5/07 8:59 AM

Hi,

I am about to purchase a new digital camera, but I'm not sure which one to buy. I'm looking for a moderately priced camera ($200 or less, 5-6 Mpixels) that takes great pictures. Picture quality is important because I print a lot of pictures and also do a lot of web developing and I'll be using the pictures I take on web sites.

Can anyone offer some advice? Thanks.

Rob

I suggest you look at the Canon A540.
6 megapixels, 4X optical zoom.

Very sharp images and it is loaded with features.

You can find the camera for around $180-$190.

Here is a link to a review of the A540:

Thanks for the tip. My daughter has the A530 and it seems nice. How different is the A540? I was also considering the Canon SD600. Do you know anything about that cam?

The Canon A540 over the A530.
Larger LCD
6 megapixels vs 5 megapixels
Has manual controls in addition to the auto controls

I have a canon SD700

And it is awesome. I strongly advise the SD700. The battery life is increadable, I have never ran out of juice yet. I mean, we are talking like 300-400 shots, and no problem. Also, it is very very small. The battery recharges, just plug it in, and it takes AWESOME pictures. I am pretty happy with the quality for the size of the thing.

But if you want nice pictures, defiantly canon all the way. The video is pretty nice too, the SD700 has 640 x480 at 30 fps (which is all you need), but if you really want, it also has 320 x whatever at 60 fps. Thats movie speed.

Lens adapters

The A540 can use lens adapters if you want more zoom, a wider shot, fisheye or even filters. The A530 you cant put an adapter on.
