Don't Abolish Daylight Savings

by caliluv777 - 2/16/07 9:56 AM

For those of us who enjoy the beach and thrive in the sun, abolishing daylight savings time will harm us. I LOVE going to the beach and spending my free time outdoors and am very sad in the winter when it gets dark early and it is COLD. Yes, anything below 70 degrees may as well be freezing. I LOVE daylight savings time and am all for the new dates for time changes! Please please don't take my fun in the sun away!

You'll still have you're "fun in the sun"

You know, we're not actually changing the Earth's rotation or it's movement around the Sun, therefore you'll still have your beach time :-)

Here's an article from '05 on Slate explaining Daylight Saving Time.

That may sound cute and all lovey dovey...

But daylight saving time is becoming a burden on our society and has overstayed its welcome..

..Originating from the generation that was at work promptly at 6:30 and all tuckered out by eight, the benefits of the idea no longer exist in today's world (which is why countries have been abandoning it).

Plus: I don't "thrive" in sunshine... and in fact my favorite day is when the slow-moving skies have a gray tint and overshadow everything underneath. Yeah it sounds all dark and cynical (which I'm not), but my point is that it's pointless to keep daylight savings time so that you can be at the beach in broad daylight at 7:00..

Just my thoughts

Alex

Let's keep only Daylight Savings Time

by dim76 - 2/17/07 4:57 PM In reply to: Don't Abolish Daylight Savings by caliluv777

Who needs a sun shining at 7PM? Well who needs a sun shining at 6AM?
I would say that exactly because a lot of people have flexible schedule now - meaning they often go to work later and return home later - we should have DST. I agree that switching clocks back and forth doesn't make much sense, so I'd prefer if we just stick with DST for the whole year (it won't be be called DST then of course)

Also, no more kid's sports at night

Don't know about your area, but here, if we didn't do daylight saving time, we wouldn't have any soccer games in the evening due to light issues (except in the heart of summer). If anything, they should make DST permanent and never "turn the clock back". I don't need it sunny at 6am, I'm still sleeping!

daylight saving time will be over here in brazil, in march :(

in my city we have sun until 8pm, it means: beach until 7pm!
but when it's near 6pm, it starts to wind and everything gets a little colder...

daylight saving time should last forever! it does not happen because during the winter, the sun would rise only after 6 o'clock...

and for you guys: don't worry about it!
windows is never right about daylight saving time... and we have never suffered anything!

energy

by matt02429 - 2/18/07 5:11 PM In reply to: Don't Abolish Daylight Savings by caliluv777

doesn't daylight savings time save a boatload of energy? The energy saving kind of make "i don't want to have to remember to change my clock" a really lame argument. Not get out there and get rid of your incandescent light bulbs!

There should be just one big time zone...

and just kick back and watch the madness unfold.

Two choices

by Renegade Knight - 2/20/07 7:08 AM In reply to: Don't Abolish Daylight Savings by caliluv777

One change all the clocks to match daylight but leave our work schedule the same.

Change our work schedule to match reality and leave the clocks alone.

One is less work. Naturally we chose the one that is more work.

If there were no clocks to watch, you would get up at sunrise and go to bed at sunset and sleep a lot more in the winter.
